Yeah same here, I had a few friends who were middle class/upper middle class, and when I went to their houses for the first time I was shocked that normal people were living in nice houses like that

i had friends that grew up in housing projects but i was suburban groid, my neighbors to the right were white optometrists and the left neighbor was a high ranking black female sergeant in the military and her football player son (he was popular but we used to play pokemon cards some weekends, sometimes he bullied us but it was never bad, he always said hey to us at school)
in the culdesac across the street was a lawyer, another lawyer and his family, another military family, some guy with a new car every month and an indian family, one of them was a doctor that worked in the same plaza as the optometrist neighbors
anyways i would have friends from the Ps stay over sometimes because their parents were fighting or out on drugs or something, i always tried to be a good friend and help them forget by keeping us occupied with vidya/beyblades and stuff
its really eye opening when you see someone just like you eating food you've eaten your whole life and thinking it's the best thing ever (his first home-cooked meal came from my house, we were 14)

This. I lived in the projects growing up and to my surprise I found out one of my classmates was in a gang, another young black kid. He was 14 when he got shot in a parking lot near his house, it was all over the news. I remember coming home after a night of partying at my friends house and seeing the roads and sidewalks around the lot sectioned off with tape and police cars everywhere. You could see blood.
