Comprehending advanced technology

Does thinking about the existence of pic related freak you out? There you are, a normal person who seems to be pretty excited when a simple TCP server you construct works properly, only for that euphoria to be short lived when you see how insignificant it is compared to the scope of existing technology. It's like learning Markov chains only to feel small when you look at cutting edge ML research. The effort in engineering something like the B1 is so far out of your reach, it might as well have been designed by an alien civilization. Even if you started today, you'd probably never figure out everything you needed to learn in order to create one. That's true even for the genius who designed it in the first place, since he didn't start from square 1. I suppose what I'm trying to say, is that comprehending advanced technology is mind blowing.

It doesnt freak me out but it makes learning stuff on my own feel pointless.

When I was a kid I once gushed, in a letter to Origin Software, about how much effort they must've put into Ultima 5. I mean, to have prepared, in advance, on the floppies, every single possible combination of tiles that could appear in a full screen! Wow!

... you'll get less freaked out as you learn more. And then, after a point, if you tried to explain it to someone else you'll get a sense again that it's indeed an amazing thing. But it's not beyond human comprehension. Specialists are just lazy.

Yes, very much so. It’s hard to say which kind of knowledge will be critical in the future and what will turn out to be a mirage.
The fact technology I don’t fully understand is so critical to my survival makes me a bit queasy.

This, though, it makes me want to give up and be content with what I know.

economics is much more vital to you and it's only just barely within human comprehension, and as a study it's dominated by bootlickers. If you pity states like Venezuela, the reality is that you're already living in Venezuela and the absurdly wealthy states that should pity you were never allowed to exist.
basic human biology is pretty important too, and even easy to understand, but you'll get your life destroyed for talking truthfully about it. Errors on this subject extend to madnesses that will directly affect you: doctors worse than they would've been; caretakers in your dotterage that despise you, and will just laugh while you choke on your own spittle and expire.
mere technology is nothing to feel queasy about.

...

you mean fatalism

Just as no single man in the world knows how to or can make a pencil.
Team work makes the dream work :^)

Imagine how quickly things would turn to hell if whites somehow vanished.
