Under what conditions do you believe it to be ok to violate the technological privacy of a pubescent person in your care?
Don't say never or always, I'm interested in fruitful discussion not wishful thinking.
Under what conditions do you believe it to be ok to violate the technological privacy of a pubescent person in your...
what are you imagining? Maybe they're a retard who still needs you to wipe their ass, and you need to measure their internet usage? Privacy isn't really one of those rights that a parent/guardian needs to violate very frequently.
Always. Fuck your qualifications. Pubescent kids are horny little fuckers, and the vast majority of them are committing Federal felonies by sending nudes of themselves and their friends to each other. This is an area where the law definitely has not caught up with technology, and you need to take steps to make sure your kid isn't doing something life-alteringly stupid.
The only exception is if your kid is smart enough to use serious crypto. I'm not saying you should go so far as to beat their keys out of them. If they're willing to learn enough to keep the FBI out of their data, you should respect that.
Another possible exception is if they work and save up to buy their own devices and data plan. Otherwise, nothing they own is truly theirs. It's mine, and I will observe their use of it to the extent I see fit.
Assuming constant suspicion without evidence is a great way to damage your relationship permanently.
You should violate the hell out of the privacy of the social media of anyone in your care. That's not "wishful thinking" (although it's probably quite difficult these days). You want to know if your kids are talking with people encouraging suicide or transgenderism (but I repeat myself) or if they're talking with pedophiles or homosexuals (but I repeat myself).
boo-hoo, my kid won't completely trust me after he grows up as a
[x] living
[x] healthy
human being. Oh man if only I could have the undiluted love of a diseased and mutilated corpse.
Men who distrust their fathers will turn out anything but healthy lmao.
This stupidity is exactly why we have manchildren.
*shrug*
after my dad asked me why I'd just joined an IRC channel called "#suicide-now", I was just annoyed a little bit. I was too narcissistic to care that he might've seen my earlier conversations. I was proud of anything I said anyway.
.He thinks extreme maternalism is the only reason why we have manchildren
You're a moron. If you frame it properly, they'll have no cause for resentment. It's not about being suspicious of your kids, it's about protecting them from a complicated and dangerous world until they've developed the instincts and intellectual tools to be able to handle themselves in it.
Plus, they won't even know about most of the surveillance. You install a root cert on their (your!) devices without their knowledge and MITM all of their traffic, which you can observe for troubling communications.
Back in highschool I used to teach some of my friends how they could use truecrypt to evade their overly curious parents. So be aware that confiscating this "pubescent person"s device might even backfire.
If my kid were able to do that, then I have succeeded.
Exactly.
I'd like to violate a pubescent person if you know what I mean.
Nice infographic, but what about the watch?
Never. If you're suspicious, just ask him / her if he / she has a problem. Snooping around will only make it worse.
Take a 6 year old and give them a good ol' Packard bell XP box with basic parental controls and internet access. After about 4-5 years they will have bypassed everything you put in place and probably have installed GNU/linux. At this point you know you have a Zig Forumsfag child and the rest will do itself. Parenting solved.
You should always be monitoring what your children get up to and assume they're going to breach your trust or do things behind your back either way. You don't need to look over their shoulder constantly but you do need to educate them on how to stay safe online, not to upload or send material they may later regret and monitor where they're hanging out. For example, a child with a tablet who watches a lot of youtube you should engage in conversation to see what they're watching. Parental locks don't work exactly how you would want them to do your 5 year old maybe watching 10 year old content. If you're in charge tell them they're a bit young for that and aren't allowed. You can self monitor a lot of this by having a family who spend time together. Don't let them sit in their room all day, but have a family room where you watch TV, game your games console or a family computer.
As they get older and need more personal space, you give them that space having built a solid foundation for it. They are going to look at porn, gore and all that other shit, but so did all of us. That's a healthy curiosity and you should keep an eye on it but not punish them for exploring it unless it gets out of hand.
tl;dr build a healthy relationship with your child and know when to step in, but always keep an eye on them to know they're safe. They trust you, you trust them.
Just don't give them a computer (including smartphone) before you think they're mature enough.
If I had kids I'd turn it into a cat-and-mouse game where I'd restrict their systems for the sole purpose of having them break through it, one of the best ways to learn how computers work to an extent is to get past oppressive parental control and monitoring, and if they manage to figure out how to uninstall my root certs, tweak the router settings or maybe even run tails they've won my trust.
The aversion to risk can be a huge risk in it self, I think it's important to establish an honest conversation with your child without being overly protective. Breathing down their neck will only make your child unable to take risks and be left an anxious wreck later in life, or rebels out of resentment by hanging out with niggers.
But who am I to tell (You) how to raise (You)r child ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If the kid can't keep me out of his system, he deserves to be spied on.
...
This is the correct answer.
Also, make sure to tell your kids early on that they don't have to be part of the nigger cattle who camwhore on Instagram. Tell them that Instagram (and the social media as whole) is just an illusion, and that no one is living a perfect life, not even if they post perfect pictures on the Internets (you wouldn't think that people lie on the Internet, right?) Teach your kids to know that privacy is essential right and that they should respect the privacy of others. Tell them that it's not normal or okay to post every detail about your life online. Teach them that if people did not use their real names or pictures, they wouldn't get so mad at petty online arguments on Twatter or Faceberg.
Consider getting your kids a Raspberry PI or a cheap laptop running GNU/Linux as their first computer. If your kids break the Raspberry PI, it's not that big of a deal (compare that to breaking their Applel iBad), and your kids will hopefully learn how to actually use computers, instead of just being a """digital native""" who can just use Faceberg and who freaks out when he sees even the simplest error message popping out on the screen of his computer (most of the so-called "digital natives" can't even read what's on the screen.) Remember that one can't achieve computer literacy without the proper attitude ("""Apps""" and dumbed-down smart devices do a lot of disservice in this regard)
Tell them about the GNU system. Get each of your kids a ThinkPad on their 10th birthday and spend the rest of the day installing Gentoo on it with your kids
Teach them how to use cryptography to secure their privacy and motivate them by attempting to spy on them with whatever means you can, just the same as the NSA. If they can hide their shit from their autistic dad then they'll be fine hiding from the NSA. If they don't like it just tell them that you are doing it to teach them, not to actually spy on them and there are three-letter agencies that will spy on them anyways.
Note: I am not a parent and this is probably terrible advice but I thought the idea was amusing.
We must rape all feminists even if they're your own children.
woah... this guy is pretty hardcore
I must say that I WOULD HAVE LOVED THIS while I was a teenager. But this wouldn't work on most of them I guess.
found the nigger
Whenever you think it is truly necessary. Seriously, if you're on here hand-wringing about whether you should or shouldn't then you know that there is a need to do it and you're just procrastinating. Stop being a faggot and raise your kids right.
When my son tries to rape my wife who is his mom.
It's not rape if she consents.
But if he fucks her, I'll rape him, too!
NSA did nothing wrong thread?
fuck the doomers in this thread, if you have children in your care, you must do all you can to protect your children from scandal. or they will have those fires of passion burning. even strange fires. like what happened to me
Kill yourself.
