Sonic beaming isn't really anything new. I remember many years ago a guy invented a handheld version that used some sort of noise cancellation for beam forming. IIRC there's a Ted talk of him with it.

This tech is far from new. Has been done with both ultrasound and microwaves for decades. First read about it on the 'net not long after I first got dial up in 1996. (I think it took me less than 5 days to find the so-called conspiracy sites. It was about 2 weeks before I dared to search for porn, tho.) Those files claimed the tech had been around since the 60's or 70's. I always wondered how difficult it would be to create a beat frequency out by the sidewalk in front of my house using 2 cheap piezo tweeters running at ultrasonic freq. hidden in the bushes on each side of my house. Modulate a 30 KHz signal with a signal saying "You are a NIGGER!", drive the other with unmodulated 30 KHz out of phase, cross the streams at the target point. Hilarity ensues: "BIX NOOD MUH FUGGAH WHO SAID DAT????"
