Apparently Robert Owen formulated a plan in 1828 after the failure of New Harmony to the government of the Republic of Mexico petitioning them to grant him the provinces of Texas and Coahuila where he would have established a utopian socialist society along Owenite ideas. It probably would have failed but it’s interesting to think about what could have been sometimes.
Texas isn't only reactionary. Much like California, there are certain populations which are larger and have a certain tendency but also a large minority who are quite different. There are a lot of progressive libs in Texan cities.

This board is still spooked over who rules the Astral plane I see
It will be fun to see how Texas changes with all of the people coming in from other states to work the tech jobs that are abandoning the less shitty states.
I'm a born and raised Dallasite. Austin is overrated – it's like a big Mumford and Sons concert. Anyways the big thing here in the DFW is the Toyota corporate HQ which recently relocated to Plano.
To be honest I think the migration here is overstated in terms of political change as there is some political-geographic "sorting" going on. You have a lot of conservative types moving to Texas from other states because they see this place as like a right-wing Mecca. They're annoying as shit. What I really see is the millennial generation reaching voting age who were born and raised in Texas but are more "progressive."
Do you know what clean air tastes like? I had to transfer at DFW once, and I didn't want to breathe until I got on the next airliner. I could see the air. It was disgusting, like the pictures that you see of the brown cloud over Beijing.
You should look at the reaction on the faces of my friends from the Pacific Northwest when they try the tap water. They're basically drinking out of the Fountain of Youth up there.

Lel, oh I know it. Washington State spoils a person when it comes to water and air. I thought that the plumbing was broken the first time I smelled the water that came out of the tap in Florida.
