I was here before the second Zig Forums exodus. Yeah I remember the DDoS attacks and webhosts. The biggest blow to this site however was Google removing us from their listings and biased moderators (not just on this board but on just about every board).
As for chans in general, I'm not sure how much of a positive influence they are since you generally get some redpills mixed with a lot of smut. Although, to give credit where credit is due, the chans do have the advantage in that they're one of the last few remnants of the "old internet" where free speech was mostly tolerated.
