US does use disguised tractor trailers for Nuke transport, but they don't have police escorts, as that would make them stand out. Instead they have commando drivers as well as guys in the trailer, which itself has trapdoors that can be opened and turreted miniguns stuck out of to engage hijackers. At least this is how they used to do it, not sure if this info is outdated. I know they commonly use bombers and transport aircraft to transport nukes between bases, so I assume the disguised truck transport is to transport them from the place they are built or something.

they do this a lot decommissioned nuclear reactors get to take up two lanes of highways and accompanied by state and federal esourts along with the helpful government contracted electricians riding along in bucket trucks to move the power lines out of the way the actual nukes and hard core hardware travel on trains for the longest part of their journey this could be intermediary transport from point b to point c or point a to b. but likely it's some ts hardware accompanied by spooks like you mentioned around these parts they openly transport military hardware because it's so broken down it doesn't do anything for anyone but stimulate the local economy so we get to see a lot of the beginning stages of transport
