When you go on /co/ (at least on 4chan) there's a lot of talk about weird fetishes, and people have a compulsive need to see porn of anything and everything (something new is coming out and immediately someone is asking where the porn is, like some kind of drug addict). Then you have the subcultures of furries and bronies.
It's ironic that anime and its fans are seen as being hugely perverted unlike wholesome American cartoons, but you don't see this level of fetishism there despite porn and erotica being produced in huge numbers. It's mostly stuff equivalent to real life or not very far removed from it. Even porn, despite the memes about tentacles, is mostly like that. The biggest fetish for artists is probably clothing.
