What were monks? Monks were people who rejected civilisation and sought to get closer to what they perceived as the ultimate form of righteousness. Unlike hermits monks did not reject society as a whole, though they did reject the worldly temptations associated with the other sex. What really happened is that you had groups of men who sought something greater gathering together and focusing on what they thought was important.

The problem is that monasteries have usually been revered by societies. These people locked themselves away from society and only communicated through a chosen medium for food and supplies, etc… I don't think modern society would support a "white-focused" monastery. I also don't think it's useful to interpret the bible and translate/transcribe books anymore.
I would absolutely like to start a monastery that accepted people studying STEM fields so as to provide a communal living space where people eat, breathed, drank, sang their field of interest. All Western Monasteries worked and still work to produce something of value and so as to provide themselves with what they need. They were not and are not parasites. Historically Monks are the reason why farmland in Northern Europe became so good (because previously it was terrible and the best lands were in North Africa). In more recent times and continuing until today; many produce beer and wine. Some even produce guns.
The monk life also need not be forever. It is a way to deprogram yourself from all the bullcrap and to set yourself on a good path. Once you are ready go forth and rally the masses to you. Whilst at the Monastery you can be focusing on how to achieve your goals, how to reach people, how to break the spell, and what needs to be done to bring the world back to righteousness (because sadly simply removing the parasite is not enough at this point; you're going to need a detailed plan).

Most would come and go, but as i said earlier in this post i think it would be important to have at least three individuals stay as semi permanent residents to maintain the monastery, and continue its expansion.

It may also be a good idea to have a front business, it could be doing anything, and this would useful to both to fund the monasteries growth, and to eliminate suspicion.
