What were monks? Monks were people who rejected civilisation and sought to get closer to what they perceived as the ultimate form of righteousness. Unlike hermits monks did not reject society as a whole, though they did reject the worldly temptations associated with the other sex. What really happened is that you had groups of men who sought something greater gathering together and focusing on what they thought was important.
Another term we might use to describe these people is 'brotherhood'. If you really want to group together with fellow Zig Forumsacks then I suggest you found a monastery. It will not get blocked by other governments like Namibia. It will not get invaded by darkies and commies who want to ruin your project by moving in next door like the various 'white supremacist' groups that tried to set up in North America/ Canada. Instead you will have your own group of hardcore men who can and should care about worldly concerns, but should keep a healthy distance. Historically this is actually what monks did and were very important to the overall survival of what we today perceive as the West; you would not know the tales of the Ancient Hellenes, you would not know the struggles of the various Kings, you would not really know anything about who you are and where you came from. And on occasion monks would decide that it was time not just to keep a record of what went on, but they would ride forth and change the world for the better; revolutionising agriculture and bringing death and destruction to heretics.
