A few social network sites exist that respect privacy. Disapora, another one I literally forgot and GNU Ring are probably good contenders. But they almost never see the light of day because no one hears about them and being on a social networking site by yourself kinda defeats the purpose.
At the end of the day what you want is security, privacy, and freedom to talk to either your own social circle or one you define.

People have already shown they are willing to pay people for their work, even when they don't need to. Market it on the premise that it's totally ad-free and (if you're a Zig Forumslack), also committed to free speech. With the premise "All opinions are allowed, if you don't like it, don't pay for it,". Take a small (10%ish?) cut of all earnings to run the site.

This is a good idea user but killing something like YouTube takes luck rather than silver bullets. There are a lot of platforms that'll host videos in a format similar to classic YouTube that you have to beat, which would take shitloads of marketing - look at something like Minds, similar concept to yours but for social media, and even with all the advertising and word of mouth coverage, it still hasn't really taken off. It takes a lot more than a good idea to make something in the tech world, unfortunately.
That would be key if you want money for it. Otherwise people wont pay when it's already free and you would need someone like Pewdy to leave and want to make his own personal page…
