Lifting while not a solution for everything is a good idea if you are current frail. If you are out of shape then you should be doing pushups. This is just a base standard for success (being physically able). So if you are out of shape then thats something to do.
But more than that "lifting" is a metaphor of overcoming the world. When you bench press you are exerting your will to move a heavy object against the gravity the universe has created. When you do this with your body you are also symbolically imprinting an example of this success in your mind. Success breeds success. Failure breeds failure.
If you cant do 10 , 20 , 50 pushup its no wonder the world seems so dark and difficult to you. You can even life your own life how do you expect to lift others.

There is more to life then just suffering constantly, unless your life is just shit or you have some sort of chemical inbalance that prevents you from experiencing things like pleasure love or beauty. These sort of things is a huge reason why most people don't kill themselves. Another driving force for many is a feeling of wonder or awe at their ability to even be self conscious, and curiosity that drives them to understand themselves and the world around them. Sure some of these things are "just" chemical processes like dopamine and serotonin but so what? You are made up of complex interactions of cells, microorganisms, and all these biological things, the chemicals are just a part of all of that and make up you.
