The USA actually can literally just starve them.
China imports a shit load of food.
They get a good chunk of it from surrounding countries, but what farms they do have, they buy product for from the USA.
I.e. Soybeans, certain other feeds, etc.
They don't really have good farmland in the first place, and Mao really did a number on the ecosystem if what I know of his reforms are right.
Or maybe I should just say the Chinese fucked up the ecosystem, because they're still doing that pretty effectively.

Part of this insecurity is the reason for the rail lines to Europe, and the neocolonialism in Africa, I imagine.
Europe produces a ton of food too(Europe has to by necessity, there's 732 million people living there and insofar as I know the continent does not import heavily), and probably exports, I don't know the figures though.
Meanwhile, Africa is a stable climate year round. There used to be farms there, as we probably all know, maintained by Europeans during the old age of Imperialism. Seemed to work out okay.

I've read that in a healthy economy (as healthy as one can get based off of fractional reserve inflated lending pegged by the USD can get, anyways) that Chinese sell their goods to the US, and end up with a bunch of USD in their reserves. This money should then go to the Chinese central bank(s), which are then placed as bonds against the US, so as to return the money back to the US and end up with a zero-sum.

However, they don't have to do the reverse, they just have to hold on to the USD and it'll fuck up the system.
