"Russia" was created in 16 century from Muscovy, the Duchy that captured power by collaborating with the Mongols and had semi-islamic non-slavic culture. Russia is not a "slavic" country and it never positioned itself as a nation-state of slavic people (unlike Belarus or Ukraine). At some point of time "Russia" claimed to be a successor of Kievan Rus (which was destroyed by the Mongols) and appropriated slavic language and culture. But the peoples that live on territories of modern Belarus, Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania have much more "rights" to claim to be successors of Kievan Rus simply because it was founded on the territory of modern Ukraine and majority of the peoples lived in Rus lived on these territories, not on the territories of "Russia". Also the territory of Belarus was never captured by the Mongols and most of the territory of Ukraine too.
