Somehow this seems like the most idiotic move. The Yugoslav royal leadership was pro-British and anti-communist, and would've been a most valuable ally in the Cold War. Furthermore, Yugoslavia was apart from Greece the only non-communist country in Eastern Europe who actually fought the Nazis after 41 - Hungaria, Romania, Bulgaria, etc. all collaborated. So Yugoslavia had international legitimacy in not becoming a Soviet satellite (as restitution for collaboration) and in fact with Greece the same exact reasoning kept it free.
So why did Churchill favor Tito (the commie leader) over Draza Mihailovic (the royalist leader)? It was obvious that Tito would betray him and not hold independent elections as he had promised, he simply had no reason to. The most frequent reason given for Churchill's support of commie Tito was that he fought the Nazis more effectively than the royalists, which while true did not make a difference in the grand scheme of things - maybe shorten the war by a week or so at most, and that wasn't worth losing half of southeastern Europe to the commies.
I feel like this was either a stupid move, and I don't think the British leadership was stupid, or it was a perfidious scheme that I don't quite see through. Any ideas Zig Forums?

All royal leaderships were taken out and replaced with (((democracy))). That way people believe they're in charge of their destiny rather than leaving it at the hands of some ruler. If things go sideways "well you shouldn't have voted for X" forgetting the fact that voting X, Y or Z will give you the same result.

It's true that the British leadership supported, or at least recognized the democratic February Revolution 1917 in Russia, however, it wouldn't have made any sense for Churchill to hate monarchies even more than he hated communism.
Yugoslavia was not going to become a democracy with a commie leader in charge of all the armed forces, that must have been obvious to everyone.
Rhodesia was INCREDIBLY pro British (or at least the queen) and fervently anti communist, but Britain still boycotted and sanctioned Rhodesia as the only nation to ever be hit with something as hard as Germany in that regard.

It came to a point where Draza Mihailovic was basically controlled opposition for the axis powers and the British wanted someone to violently overthrow the occupation, which the Communists were able to do. The situation after the war was not ideal but they had to act in the present.
