I've done engineering research at a university. Its extremely obvious that the Chinese are infiltrating. When a Chinese professor (American citizen or not) gets dedicated lab space, he only takes on foreign Chinese graduates for paid research. I've been in their labs, and seen work that is not impressive, nor does it seem like they are interested in searching for any kind of breakthrough. At most, they attempt to replicate things that are already established. Mandarin was openly spoken, even with other people around.
During my tenure, I thought of only one Chinese professor who could be doubted (he was a US citizen) out of a dozen of them in the college, obviously was producing concepts and theories, and took on only non-Chinese graduates and only spoke English.
Oh, well, then it's a good thing jews had nothing to do with chinese communism, huh? I guess we should just let the chinks steal all the things.

When I was in undergrad, my Chinese roommate straight up told me that his nextdoor neighbour had been ejected from the United States for espionage. He wasn't an official agent of a foreign government (read, PRC), but he was selling confidential information from his employer for money. Somehow, despite having an espionage record in the US, he managed to get his permanent residency in Canada. Presumably because he didn't have a criminal record in China. For what it's worth, the guy had apparently renounced spying because it was "too stressful for the amount of money you get" but the fact is that he still did it.
I had something hit closer to home as well. When I was doing my masters, I worked under a professor who was researching new smelting methods for rare earths that had the potential to break China's monopoly if it were successful. About a year after I joined the lab we also got a Chinese graduate student from Tsinghua. Nice enough guy, we always went out drinking and for lunch, but he acted really weird in other ways. He was always in the lab really late at night, like until midnight or 1am, long after everyone else had gone home. He said that he was a "night person" and always used to show up around 11am every day, or later even. Just before he left, several hard drives containing valuable data inexplicably failed. All at the same time. I've seen one or two hard drives fail within a few weeks of one another but I've never seen four of them go in a night. Thankfully we had backups, but then a few weeks later this Chinese dude "accidentially" got "some kind of virus" which encrypted more drives and one of the backup tapes. That easily set our research back by 2 or even 3 years. Nobody else thought anything of it, they just chalked it down to "computers being computers", and I was actually accused of being racist by one of my lab mates for even suggesting that the Chinese dude could be a spy. Everything seemed too convenient, but there is no way I could have ever gotten anyone to look into it. When CSIS said that Canada was "woefully unprepared" to deal with foreign agents and everyone wrote them off as paranoid, I believed them 100%.
