As others have said, there are multiple forms of internet there. Cell and satellite. They actually had/have (haven't had any reason to give a shit about the place in a bit, so this is might have changed) communal satellite internet. It was potato speed, but it existed via the meth library.
Power is provided by solar and most there allow others to tap in for a bit. There were a few different residents that had solar. Water comes from down the road. There is a tap that they fill jugs with, for free last I checked.
Theft is a big no-no there. They are anarcho-communists in glamorization only. They do "share" but are possessive still. They will call the police if someone steals something, and are less likely to pull a gun because most can't pass the background checks to get one. The ones that can are too afraid to use it because the police will come quickly.
None of them are starving or anything.
Runs are made to nearby towns/cities for food and such. Thermal, even Costco in Indio and such. They have money from everything from SSI, retirement, selling their (((art))) to tourists and pan handling in nearby cities. Donations too.
A lot of low-level degenerate crimes are committed constantly, and they are okay with it. The place isn't a murder fest from nearby gangs in Indio and DHS because everyone that lives nearby knows it is bullshit and the police will be there instantly.
