some people i know working in the field often travel TO the boat to repair it or its engines. they have software with the live location of many, many ships. many register to these location services without knowing they have. some don't. but if it's a charter company boat then it is very likely to be in it. i think there is a service like this open to all, but maybe not with as much information..
