I understand the problem with capital controls being heavy regulation of trying to exchange the SA Rand for another currency. Generally this all goes back to banking, trying to take your electronic SA Rands and trade them for some other electronic money, likely in another banking institution in another country.
What I don't understand is the inability of whites to take their money, purchase physical goods that have real world value, then move with those goods=wealth to another country. I understand SA is very mineral rich. Diamonds are the lightest, smallest, most concealable way to move wealth out of country, and SA is a hub for the diamond trade. Diamonds are just a great example, but any hard asset or commodity that you can move is a way you can move your wealth out of that country. Gold, silver, airplanes, luxury cars, trucks (big rigs), boats, all have intrinsic value, and some that I listed can help you escape SA. Crypto is great too, but I'm sure you would be hard pressed to find an exchange that would accept your SA Rand or credit from a SA bank to buy crypto to move it out of the country.
I don't want to sound like I'm over-simplifying the situation of transferring Rand to physical assets then moving them, but I'm genuinely curious why that's not a realistic means to move one's wealth out of the country? Even if you had physical cash, if you could smuggle that out of the country, you should be able to go to an exchange at your destination and convert your Rand to whatever the local currency or another curreny you want, base on exchange rates (I understand the local place might not be able to exchange $10k+ at a time, you might have to spread it around).
