When you buy gold and silver you're paying a premium to the banks for the pleasure of getting ripped off by them as they whip the price around with tens of billions in imaginary notional contracts. People tend to forget that an asset is only worth something if you can sell it, and if nobody is buying, it's not getting sold… and when you have a big chunk of the market, it becomes hard to sell it off, especially without triggering a downtrend which will in turn lower the value of your asset before you've sold the amount you intended to. I have to agree with pretty much everything you've said.
