Unfortunately, one side effect of the fact that Hellmuth von Moltke and Bismarck were so successful was that Germany in general became so successful and powerful. Jena and Sedan scared the shit out of the powers that be, and the incredible success of the new, industrialized German nation put Britain on its traditional footing of needing to restore the balance of power on the continent to preserve its empire. Britain and France putting aside centuries of enmity was less the product of some random Fashoda crisis than Britain reverting to its traditional policy of ganging up with second rate continental powers to stop first rate continental powers from becoming hegemonic. The main problem with him was that he was completely irreplaceable and he didn't nurture a successor.
