Word is that Field's defense hasn't been as aggressive as it should have been. If you've ever been in or witnessed a criminal trial against an innocent man, you'll know how bad this can be.

Not to be black-pilled, but juries are stupid as fuck (there are many reasons for this) and his attorney is a woman. It's open and shut to us, but in a court of law, not so much.

Despite what common wisdom would have you believe, public defenders are often excellent attorneys. Especially when compared to at least half of the criminal defenders in private practice. The price tag of legal counsel often has no correlation to quality. You can easily spend $50,000 on criminal defense and get nothing for your money. Worse, a bad attorney will leave you with no room for appeal. There are no published metrics on attorney performance and the legal profession works to keep it that way.

1. No one knew James Fields. He went to meet people and ended up in jail.
2. Many people have been in contact with his attorney, feeding her arguments and exculpatory evidence. Her office has acknowledged receipt of this evidence.
3. There are around a dozen such people, but only Fields is on the news.
4. Spencer is himself fighting legal battles and doesn't have infinite money to pony up for everyone in jail over Charlottesville
5. The other famous "whoevers" you think should pony up also face civil and criminal cases over Cville, and were also fighting for their own survival
6. Those who still have platforms DO actively shill their audiences to financially support the men still in jail

Either way this works out it will be interesting, if you're trapped in your vehicle and an angry mob is closing in and trying to bash it open to get at you and shuck and eat you like a live oyster, do you have the right to just say "fuck it" at some point and tear ass through the teeming mass of lunatics? What if you're convinced they're going to kill you? At that point you might as well floor it anyway no matter how this works out. In some states they have made it explicitly legal to plow through a mob.
