cheapest grade is banned in California it's why spics refill on their side of the border where leaded #1 is sold; also California's diesel has more BTUs than diesel sold in most of the midwest which requires Ethanol to be blended in. Also it's more expensive to offset the cheaper registration fees and lack of smog checks (most diesels are test-only). For what it's worth Californian propane tends to be better quality because the state forced larger fleets to convert to it, so refineries in the state are brand new and take advantage of the latest technology.

This better applies to the attempt (operative word being attempt) to build a second transbay tube, SF and Oakland have fucked up the planning on that so bad (from building a multi-billion dollar car bridge in the mid 00s to not using the right concrete in the new transbay terminal and adjacent towers) that a new tube is unlikely to happen before 2050, by which point everyone who has to suffer with an SF-OAK commute will have packed up and left.

It's got special significance because Newsom was part of this as SF's Mayor, while he was talking a big game about fighting Prop 8 and George Bush he didn't do anything about the city's dysfunctional transit network. If things continue as they are then SF will continue not doing anything productive, a move that only hurts themselves.


My post was more in regards to the state rail plan and less CAHSR, but if you want to make it about that then fine. But even then what you said better applies to the 2nd transbay tube (or even all transbay travel, because both the new bridge and existing tunnel would probably suffer major damage in an earthquake).

I grew up in the SF bay area but don't live in California anymore. They can't even build roads in that state. The state I'm in now it took approximately 9 months to build a nearly identical piece of infrastructure (a fucking FREEWAY OVERPASS) which took ~10 years to build in California. I know it took that long because it was already under construction when I was about 9 and they didn't finish until I was nearly 20 years old.
Only a few years ago was the replacement for the Bay Bridge opened, which was to replace the old one which was held together by dreams and duct tape since the earthquake in 1989, but the new one is already under scrutiny because the steel used in many parts of it is shit-tier quality Chinese trash because of the enormous corruption and graft in any major California construction project.

The entire white middle class is in the process of fleeing the state besides the goodest goys or the tech aristocrats living in their Elysium. Stockton is a joke, it's basically our own private Detroit. Rural areas are tired old white ranchers/farmers awaiting the embrace of death or illegal Mexican hives who do nothing but extract gibs and bring crime. The entire state of California will go bankrupt before a single operating line of this rail project is completed.

The first thing anyone notices when entering California from literally any other neighboring state is that all of the roads are crumbling to pieces and covered in garbage. The state can't even maintain existing roads, let alone build a cutting-edge Japan-tier maglev train system.

CA can't maintain the roads because the feds paid for their construction, it's an overbuilt system (the most obvious example being US-99 and I-5, the latter of which should never had been built).

California roads are actually amazing considering how many people drive on them. The problem isn't infrastructure that's been around since the 50s but rather putting in anything new. Environmentalists jump on any and every chance they can stop any government project larger than an acre from breaking ground. Those minor city projects that last five or more years are usually corruption problems more than anything else and you can find that anywhere else in the world, not just California.
