Any real change in the actual power structure must go through the average police first. The army doesn't come in until the police have first failed. And even then, the police are just a branch of the army, let's be honest.
Police are unknowingly fighting against the principals they think they're defending. As soon as they get inevitably red-pilled amid the chaos of a coup and they will turn against their controllers. This is why quelling domestic unrest always involves first sacrificing these police first, before they get red-pilled and change sides (like a scorched earth policy in mind control).
They're programmed with various forms of patriotism, which helps them justify what they do; and makes them extremely effective.
But this doesn't change that they ARE the front line. They ARE the physical barrier we must come to grips with. They block all the exits, and they hold all the keys to next step. This leaves us with two options any resistance must make:
1) An organized assault. The mind controlled police will fight to the bitter end, before they've ever had a chance to get red-pilled amid the chaos. Yet, they do sign up to put their lives on the line, right? 2) Sacrifice our own useful idiot population by populating police conflict zones with them using mind control. But then we would be just as evil as the evil elite. 3) If police really believe in protecting the people, then we must break their programming and convince them to fight for us by secretly plotting to overthrow their superiors and turning the police into our own fighting force. The start of the open conflict would begin once the police have openly changed sides. This is my personal choice; but how could we evangelize to the average cop without being targeted for treason?

Police work in crime-ridden areas because even high crime areas are mostly populated with law-abiding people. Police trust figures hover evergreen in the more-trusted-than-not ranges precisely because most people who encounter police have positive encounters amidst terrible points in their life and even most police who do the wrong thing do it only by sincere error.
Self-driving cars will improve police reputation even more by taking away a common petty source of friction between the police and the public. I think day-fines would also help on similar grounds.

This is also true. Quality post. Municipal police work for cities, which are INCORPORATED. That is private land that has a city built on top of it, bonds issued like any other business, etc. Think Admiralty law (of the sea/corporations) extending jurisdiction over Common law (of the land/people). No they won't. Police as a whole are extremely risk averse, which is why we have all of these senseless shootings. They are convinced that they are doing the most dangerous job on the planet, while having fewer workplace casualties than garbage collectors.
If things fall apart, police will simply walk away and go home to their families. We got a good look at this in the LA Riots, where the police abandoned the city for several days the moment they realized they were completely outgunned.
