I don't know much aboot how it works in the USA. The international students I know speak English/French, but I've heard that it's possible to take a degree in French but do your exams in English, maybe this is one of those situations. I don't see a point in fully assimilating if you plan on going back to your country after you're done anyway. I don't control the decisions at my post-secondary institution unfortunately, so I can't do anything about it either way.
