To expand on that: Catbox links were being shared on 4chan, Zig Forums and various other platforms. At some point the server wasn't able to handle that many connections anymore and it broke the site. Additionally, the content isn't being delivered over a CDN like Cloudflare, so it's also quite possible that he pays for every Terabyte and thus wants to minimize his costs.
