If you look at American political history, especially in recent times, the political pendulum does not stay on one side very long. And when a President of one party is in power, they loose seats to the opposite party in Congressional Mid-Term Elections. In recent years, the President in power has tended to loose at least one house of Congress while in the Mid-Term elections.

The United State's Republic form of government is sorta designed this way. Acceleration might be a better option for countries that have more parliamentary forms of government.

Also in recent times, with very few exceptions, presidents tend to get 2 terms, and then a president of the opposite party is elected. Trump will likely be re-elected and a Democrat will likely be elected after him in 2024.
