With recent events, I think these type of comments by the Syrian ambassador can actually find a sympathetic ear. The combination of Ilhan Omar calling out AIPAC publicly, the histrionic response that she got by those in power, and the most pro-Israel president in American history giving Israel anything they ask for all combine to make millions of people more open to hearing these types of comparisons.
