How can we end private campaign finance / politician funding (over a small limit)?
Politicians in the US have become puppets of billionaires and those with hundreds of millions, and are often seen hanging out in mansions looking for funding for their campaigns and promising to push the capitalist's agenda. These rich people book venues for politicians, buy air time, buy newspaper pages etc. and can easily threaten to remove the political class we voted for.
Meanwhile in many North European nations, Canada, Australia etc. the rich have little to no say in how the country is run. Everyone's almost equal. For example, in Canada about 90% of campaign finance is by the public sector, with the rest being donations by millions of Canadians.
Should we become like the above nations in this regard? Or adopt a more communist approach to keep billionaires in check? What about an elective monarchy where experienced economists, political scientists, philosophers, law professionals and educated people in general elect a monarch (along with regional lords) to run the country instead of SELFISH BUSINESSMEN ONLY INTERESTED IN THEIR OWN COMPANY'S FINANCIAL GAIN?
Trump's done some good with regard to immigration, russia, attacking non-western cultures, north korea etc. but he's still going to push the billionaire agenda over the country's. How do we ensure that governance is done by a properly elected government and not a handful of billionaires?

Even if we were to hang billionaires, the nature of capitalism is such that these guys would be created again. It's not capitalism that this thread should focus on finding an alternative to, nor should we think about ending billionaires, but rather, how to stop billionaires from making decisions about the country. They can keep the money, but not the power.

The constitution provides two methods to amend it, either through congress, and then ratification by the states; or the states can, on there own hold a constitutional convention.
A convention is the only method I can see that would allow us to fix this, as even the supreme court has ruled that bribing politicians is protected under the first amendment, both sides abuse the shit out of this and there is little chance it will be over turned.
But a convention is a dangerous thing, they could for instance decide to make 'hate speech' not protected, or remove second amendment rights. Or re-wright the entire constitution all together making a parliamentary system.
Remember, the articles of confederation was the organizing doctrine of our nation, they held a convention to fix a few details in it, and ended up scrapping the whole thing giving us the constitution we have today. Something just as drastic could happen in a constitutional convention.
State legislatures are given the authority to call for a constitutional convention. For an amendment to be officially proposed this convention must be called for by 2/3 of the legislatures however if you wanted to get the process rolling I would propose a state get it's legislature to call for a convention that will be held regardless biennially inviting all other states to join. Hopefully each convention more and more states attend and perspective amendments discussed (garnering public support) until the critical 2/3 threshold is met and we finally get some of this shit fixed.
There is no limit to what you can do if you can wright the constitution, you could legalize gassing the Jews, but they could also legalize killing all gun owners. Take great care as this is fire you would be playing with.
