It's because the UK bloc of MEP historically have been the ones keeping the EUSSR at bay. Even Labour and LibDem MEP are far more conservatives than their German or French equivalent. Without them, since the "nationalists" of the EU don't actually have the majority, it will become a fully fledged EUSSR federal pseudo state that no-ones actually want.
