Basically it's KSA and Iran that took a page out of the OSS/CIA textbook (you mention poles under the germans, that was a hint).
Syndicalism was originally (pre-WWII) only a socialist affair. The US occupation of Europe hinged on one thing = the marshall Plan.
The problem was to enact the marshal aid, you needed the wokers unions, all that were long time members of the Comintern/Cominform… headed from Moscow that was hell bent on disrupting the long term implantation of US control over the industries of western Europe (that always made policy).
So the US needed to break down syndicates. Which is how the CIA was attributed 5% of the entire Marshall budget, which it spent on promoting "non-marxists" leftists ideologues and unions.
Which led to the creation of the various non-marxist unions in France and Italy especially, had the nazi took care of theirs in germany (the historic unions are respectively the CGT and the CGIL, the ones created by the CIA are the CFDT and the UIL).
Now to counter communism and arab nationalism in the 60's and 70's the CIA did the same.
They added a religious element same as they had created all those "christian democrats" leftists bootlickers due to the still very strong pull of religion in Islamic society to counter marxism.
Except they never realize that being christianity is all peace and forgiveness, while being a muslim is all about murdering and enslaving every non-muslim.
So they created/backed one insanely powerful organization, the Muslim Brotherhood which core goal is to spread salafism (the most misogynistic, totalitarian, racist version of Islam. Not that the others are really better but still) which is great for the CIA budget since it's the US good ally in the middle east, the saudi, that are paying for it.
It worked wonders, from the attempts at unification in a sort of soviet/Yugoslav union of the middle east of it's debut arab nationalism (that was heavily socialist) was quickly overtook by Islamism.
Even their last historical leaders like Qaddafi or Saddam had to reintroduce religion in their rulership (while they were originally profoundly against islam, for the barbaric, obscurantist, backward bullshit that it is, that gives all the power to the preachers and ultimately to Cairo and Mecca universities… guess which gets more money).
The same thing happened in Iran with the Shia and the ayatollah (their boss was hosted by France, the Shah became less and less of an US puppet and redder and redder).
Since all the people that made the CIA the great brainwashing machine that it was died (of old age) and all you have left are retards taught by the same leftists harmless morons they propped up ON PURPOSE to deter actual "revolutionarism" they have actually forgot about all of that.
And they don't even realize that those things are structures left behind by those that came before them, as they were designed to be autonomous, are still active and just as effective.
So yeah when the US invaded Iraq, the two regional powers went "lol, no" and use the very classic and effective scheme of "who controls the workers unions, controls the country".
