In China itself, there is no honest acknowledgment of leadership. They limit information. When criticism cannot be spoken, praise is insincere. (When praise cannot be spoken, criticism is also insincere, but that is an American problem rather than a Chinese problem.). The historians of China will say what they are ordered to say.
Hong Kong was a British possession. Britain is a little reluctant to speak, but overall more honest in praise and criticism than China. To go from Britain to China seems unfavorable, foreigner that I am to make this judgmemt.
