Today I placed my Smith & Wesson .357 Mag revolver on the table right next to my front door. I left 6 cartridges beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.

Even in the Marine Corps the M16 is simply refered to as a "service rifle". I've never heard anyone call it an assault rifle, ever. It's not even as powerful as typical hunting rifles, and the 3-round burst shit is mostly a way to waste lots of ammo. Fire teams carry a machine gun, which the M16 is not, and trying to use it as one will end up jamming it or fucking up the barrel.
