Labour denies losing 17,000 members over antisemitism row piling pressure on Jeremy Corbyn

TL;DR: it all started with Ken Livingstone saying Hitler was a Zionist and a Momentum leader saying "my ancestors [she was jewish] financed the slave trade". (this is factually incorrect btw on both accounts and was the kind of shit the Nation of Islam put out)
Now what happened since then is there have been a trickle of reports of cllrs being selected that either had posted pol-tier holocaust denial or were fucking memeri-tier. This built up over time and the party, having gone from like 150k to 550k members, could not handle the complaints fast enough.
What triggered this recent "crisis" was a report from 2012 of Corbyn defending a mural, now the mural [>>2460932] itself is kinda borderline but its painter is fucking Zyklon ben tier: saying it is basically about "MUH ROTHSCHILDS CONTROLLING THE WORLD".
So two domestic jewish pressure groups (The Jewish board of deputies; a broad front jewish pressure group, and the jewish labour movement; the jewish section within labour formally called Poale Zion [not it is not an pro-israeli group, that is LFI]) wrote a letter to Corbyn and had a protest in parliament square. Corbyn has put out statements to the effect of "I am not an anti-semite, the blokes at Cable Street did nothing wrong Mosley deserved it" and some genuine efforts are being taken to deal with legitimate anti-semites.
Since this our right wing press (aka the whole press) has started to have a field day, although ironically it is starting to backfire as a) anti-semites in the tories come out b) leftish jews get pissed off c) groups live leave.eu tried to make it about labour trying to get muslim votes and the Jbd denounced that d) news just moving on e) the recent actions of Israel have had many jews also condemning that and right-wingers saying "but wait you are meant to love israel f) it actually strengthening the pro-Corbyn jewish group: Jewish Voice for Labour g) creating solidarity in several CLPs (this has happened to mine, we had our biggest meeting in a long time a few days back because of this very issue: it was a good one).

Now to get on to the impacts:
As for the "17k people leaving" that figure is mostly bollocks: "officials" giving out membership reports that aren't the actual figure tend to be exaggerated, also memberships of parties fall all the time because people leave for all kinds of reasons/don't re-register.
As for Labour's relationship with the Jewish community, well some were never going to support Corbyn because he is pro-Palestinian (although actually 75% of british jews, polled by Jewish Chronicle, support the creation of an actual Palestinian state), however I think some jews are genuinely concerned. Now winning back the trust of this group will take time, but I do think it can happen with a better social policy (more on that later).
As for polling, I will put money it will have NO impact on westminster voting intention.
Now there are some important local elections coming in May, however again I think this entire incident will again have NO impact, not even in the borough of barnet (the highest council area in the UK with a jewish population at 17%). This is for a couple reasons: a) people at locals vote on local issues b) the calibre of local parties matter far more c) national politics has little impact on locals d) local candidates also are a massive factor in local elections. What will happen is Labour will do well and the right-wing and liberal press with have a stroke because they won't be able to realise how the fuck this happened "Corbyn hates all the jews see?!"
Long term in the party, I think these events have the potential to actually help: first it allows for the ditching of the memeri tier wanks (a relic of blair's attempts to engage in US style identity politics and pander to some members of the muslim community no-matter-what). Secondly it will likely introduce a firmer structure with community engagement, which is always nice. Third it will allow for a revamp of the complaints procedure, which is horrifically out of date. And finally, which is the most important: it may lead to the establishment of ideological education in the party. You see some are pointing to this anti-semitism as a result of people taking the liberal "muh 1%" dogma, then saying well who is the largest group of the 1% disproportionately? Jews, then leading on from that. The reason is that while a lot of people support the policies put forth by Labour's Marxist Mastermind; John McDonnell, they don't know the theory. As such they fall into right-wing traps of a small elite controlling the world rather than a structural analysis. When everything is the result of individuals or a group of individuals, it lends itself to anti-semitism and other forms of bigotry: this is where you get the Alex Jones shit from. Now a surprising amount of people (including my personal enemy, Owen Jones) have suggested opening up socialist book clubs and class and shit to actually educate the membership in marxian theory rather than just saying "hey, the system is rigged maaaahhhnnn".

So TL;DR: a genuine issue taken up by a community blown out of proportion by the press that said community is starting to turn against which will have little impact on actual electoral prospects and as a political movement may long term strengthen the party by forcing through structural reforms.
