Best Socialist State

I'm very uneducated when it comes to historical socialist states. Let's imagine it's 1950. What socialist state should you choose to live in? Which had the best economy, quality of life, etc.?

Would you choose to live in the USSR, Cuba, Maoist China, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, Poland, East Germany, DPRK, Vietnam, or one of the republics in Africa?

DDR probably had the best quality of life of any eastern bloc state since pre-socialist Germany was the most developed of any of the states that would later become socialist.

Mongolia, I'd like to experience life under nomadic socialism

what about yugoslavia?

Yugo was breddy gud as well but Germany had been an industrial powerhouse before the creation of the DDR, obviously much of that infrastructure was destroyed in the Second World War but some things (like the fact that the populace was generally more educated than that in, say, Yugoslavia (except maybe Slovenia since it was close to the center of the Austo-Hungarian Empire)) couldn't be destroyed by the war.

Germany became socialist in 1934, stop living in your pity fueled self deluded fucking little world please.

'Nam just so I can die sending Yankee home.

get that liberal bullshit out of here

Maoist China after the GLP sounds comfy tbh, I'd like an authentic rural existence.

Literally try the americas pre-colonialism.

Cuba: fuck hot bitches, smoke cigars, swim to Florida, GTFO there before Florida Man beats my ass.

Hey Marx called the Incan form of communism brilliant, I don't blame him it's cool

Funny how the biggest "empire" in the Americas was a Socialist (differing in form to our current Socialist proposal of course) one that had no private enterprise and where people who did more than anyone else got rewarded with fine cloth rather than any form of worthless money.

Thinking about it that way, fuck it, American socialism really could keep Gucci and Prada, you just be a cool guy and do a lot of shit and you get it

All of the hitherto existing socialist states have been absolutely horrendous, but Yugoslavia and East Germany were probably the least bad among them.

On the basis of personal welfare, living in the 1950's USSR was great, simply due to tremendous growth of benefit any ordinary man could experience, even if the starting conditions lag behind more developed parts of the world.

Unlike the people who entered adulthood in the 70s or 80s.

Yougoslavia was very nice, until Tito died.

Chinese history is extremely uneven, so it is an extremely mixed bag, no matter what time frame to choose.

Other states are pretty ordinary, except DPRK and Cambodia that are worse.

why are you posting like this

Does anyone have non-biased stats on living standards? I've always imagined
as the best, but I don't have the stats to back it up

Cuba, Vietnam, and the USSR were hands down the best and most badass socialist countries to have ever existed.

Somalia, of course.

Albania came the closest to communism. In terms of living standards, probably GDR or Czechoslovakia. In terms of aesthetics, probably DPRK.

How so?

Is that so? How would you describe "coming the closest to communism"?

I mean, we shouldn’t bow to liberal lies/exaggerations, but at the same time we shouldn’t be afraid to admit their flaws.

Well they abolished taxes and commodity production in the agriculture sector after they transformed cooperative property into public property. Every other Marxist-Leninist retained the model of cooperative ownership. Also, due to the fact that Albania is such a small country, they were able to micromanage things way more effectively than monsters like Russia or China. The distribution of goods came the closest to distribution according to need in Albania, if we ignore the bunker autism for a second.

What’s the ☭TANKIE☭ take on emigration and the whole “voting with their feet” meme? How bad was emigration in Albania?

That's ancap heaven.

Interesting, also correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the USSR also abolish taxes?

IDK, because I can't edit or extend my existing post once I hit "reply"? Why does it matter?

you don't think "absolutely horrendous" is an exaggeration? the USSR had significant flaws, but it wasn't a hellhole. quality of life wise it was ahead of the west in some regards

I'm interested in learning about this.

Well if the capitalist neighbours deliberately try to drain muscle power and brain power such it was done in Berlin before the wall I agree that emigration into capitalist countries should be somewhat restricted.

USSR always had sales taxes and really low income taxes, but they never got rid of it. Only countries that did abolish taxes are Albania and the DPRK. According to North Korean media, taxes still don't exist in the DPRK.

Sadly there are not many books In English about Socialist Albania, but I think I've read about this in "Pickaxe and Rifle" which is the standard work about Albania from a socialist perspective. Pdf related

Here is an article about the lack of taxes in the DPRK

People were emigrating from socialist countries, because they have been victims of imperialism and bombed to ruble and therefore had lower standards of living than countries which were less damaged by war and exploited African and Asian countries for profit.

The best life quality were in Soviet Union in Moscow, Leningrad and the Baltics. Caucasus were also great.
The rest of Warsaw Pact states were mostly evenly good. Cuba was also good between the revolution and 90's.
China, Vietnam and many other African countries were to damaged by war to maintain a standard of living good enough for typical western brainlet.

DDR,Cuba,USSR and China I'd pick.

is that a still from Wes Anderson's next project?

Is that a joke or reference? Because I'm not getting it.

Wes Anderson is a movie director famous for using symmetrical framing and pastel colors kinda like the picture that user responded to.

DDR hands down

Wait, why are taxes bad again? Is this a libertarian thing? I fully support a 100% tax. How else is shit gonna get redistributed if nothing gets taken away?

The ones with the most whites seem to work the best.

Reddit might be a better place for you

epic style

the ussr had tens of millions of nonwhites and was at its absolute peak under a caucasoid

You mean at it’s absolute peak levels of state terror, famines and genocides?

I have to admit tho, most of the oppressed nations of Tsarist Russia were or would pass as white in America. Race is all-round a spooky concept but these people were excluded under Russian concepts of race which were quite different from American and Nazi conceptions of it.

I'd pick USSR but only if I get to be a general who wears all those cool medals.

Yugoslavia. I would be so fucking proud to be citizen.

Absolute state of Zig Forums.

Yugoslavia

benis

caucasians aren't too different from iranians and middle easterns (who aren't considered white by Zig Forums standards), and from kalmykia eastwards it's all different kinds of slant-eyed asian

a slavic russian ethnostate would occupy the moscow oblast and that's about it

Albania

didn't they settle the nomads down by 1950s?

Hey mate can you post a PDF of that book "Rifle and Pickaxe" about Albania? I closed it by accident and now can't find it.

...

hahahahaha
Albania is literally the biggest shithole in the balkans. It was back then too.

Albania was the poorest country in Europe long before the revolution, so this is a shit argument.

...

Cuba

Only minus is American attacks. Aside from that, China.

Albania had a standard of living lightyears of what it has now when it was under the Labor party of Albania
Another good example of this Romania
Even with Ceausescu being a corrupt austerity performing cunt standard of living was still higher then it was today

I wasn't denying this but it is like asking "lads what was best socialist state" and answering Burkina Faso or North Korea. They can't be faulted, but that still makes them shitholes. Also Hoxhas hyperleftism and isolationism stagnated their industrial development which made it far shittier than it had to be.

Pretty clear it's Cuba

Well if you completely ignore from where they started, then the GDR and Czechoslovakia are objectively the "best" socialist states because they were the richest. But that's a really simplified view

Sankara's Burkina Faso.

Jesus Christ they really are autistic.

Thanks

Bulgaria because that's where half my family is from

wud choose Yugoslavia in a heartbeat

It was a hellhole before the revolution, it was a hellhole during the cold war, and it's still a hellhole.
