Could socialism ever work in countries like the US?

One of the final argument I always hear against socialism is that it could never work in countries like the US due to the fact that American culture is so deeply opposed to the idea. Could this ever work? What is the most likely thing that could bring this about?

Cultures change, socialism can work wherever

Trotsky said something about how every country would probably have revolutions much different than the Bolshevik Revolution. And he was right, I think the US might be able to get to it, eventually.

We've never been invaded, so probably yes in that regard. But Amerikkka is one of, if not the most classcucked nation in the world

America has a massive and heavily militarized police force. It would probably go full Orwellian nightmare with cooperation from silicon valley firms before it went socialist. *If it hasn't already*

That's why there's cultural revolution. Even after gaining power the forces of progress must destroy remnants and reactionary ideas over and over so they do not take the wheel of the state.

The closest we ever got was FDR and that was because the great depression happend. And from what i gathered the oligarchs fucking hated FDR and they wanted to get rid of him and reverse everything back in their favor pronto after ww2 ended

There was even a real conspiracy called the business plot. The rich fucks were so scared they actually came up with the plan to overthrow the government and install a fascist dictator.

Im telling you, if an actual fucking socialist somehow pulled of a mirical and was close to becoming president you are going to see some shit. You are going to see some crazy shit go down. These fuckers will fight tooth and nail so the proles can never have anything.

Look at the UK, corbyn is so close to power and the media just has a horn thats blaring ANTI SEMITE 24/7

What do you mean?

...

WRONG, you are the country that's going to get invaded the hardest, since the usa is the only country the usa can't loose

My comrade, America had one of the most violent labor histories in the world, and once upon a time unions were in active, open ideological conflict with the bourgeois. There were several instances that might've easily spilled out into violent revolution if not contained by the US Army.

It's tragic that the 60s' New Left destroyed the legacy of their predecessors, but there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. Sanders proved that "Socialism" is no longer a dirty word in American politics, and both the Social Liberals and poorer Social Conservatives have realized that things are becoming worse every year. If we were to build an American socialism for the American people, I'm confident that we could someday force our way out of obscurity.

Daily reminder that FDR had Huey Long killed for being ever-so-slightly to the left of him. Never trust a Social Democrat.

As for the Business Plot, I'm honestly shocked that Smedley Butler's War is a Racket hasn't become a bestseller in recent years. It's apparently a very short read too; just over fifty pages. His remedies are exceedingly optimistic, but his criticism reveals directly ties war-profiteering to the finance industry and defense contractors. Do people even read nowadays?

Many nations tried to invade during the Russian Civil War on behalf of the Whites. They were highly unsuccessful, chiefly since Russia is fucking huge, and because they were fighting ex-military rather than random partisans.

What are some concepts of socialism you guys could see happening in the future of America?

Socialism doesn't work in any country, including America.

Explain this if it didn't work

Thank you for correcting the record, Zig Forums.

See the good thing is that Capitalism isn't failed because I'm sure you can name a single advancement that came from bell labs that I already know you have used today.

Are there not some parts of it that could be adopted and work in America?

The Soviets were never socialist. Since 1918, Russia was the least socialist place out there

lol. Back to reddit

what did he mean by this

Sure. You could start up your own business, and as you gain more employees, give everyone an equal say in how to run the business.

And then go out of business when lazy retards who know nothing about running a business get the same say as people who actually know how to run a business.

It didn't collapse, people were voting to maintain it. Gorbachev and Yelstin tho made sure this didn't happen

Everyone should check out the documentary Harlan County, USA. It puts "socialism could never happen in the us" in a fucking grave.

Socialist sympathy is rife in the US, it's just that after a century of anti commie propaganda in combination with US's shit education system, no one knows what the word means any more.

Ironically, porky calling everything they don't like "socialism" has muddied the water to such a degree that it's actively working against them. Young people that have been getting nothing but shit all of their lives look at Scandinavia or other relatively progressive states it policies in Europe and get told that's "Socialism” and they think "well if socialism means I don't have to work three jobs, get decent pay, and can have time to spend with my well educated, healthy children in a clean city, Socialism doesn't sound so bad."

It's all old Boomer fucks that bought the cold war propaganda that have a problem with "socialism," but that's a problem that sorts itself out over time.

I don't get it.
If communism was so popular, why did every single country seceed in the span of three years?

Employee run businesses are more efficient and profitable than traditional private businesses, but don't let facts get in the way of your uninformed ignorance.

That's not a Reddit opinion

The soviet union was a union of separate countries. When the union dissolved they were made independent. It wasn't a "secession" in the same way that the US civil war was.

Muh not real socialism
Is twitter/reddit as fuck.
Zig Forums is a better board for people like you

What made the Soviet Union socialist then

Consider being less ignorant.

conspiracy of the elites who wanted to profit from privatization, the citizenry voted overwhelmingly against the dissolution

WHOAH THATS INFINITE% GROWTH, CAPITALISM BTFO

But the people voted for non-communists as soon as they finally had a choice.

Welp guys guess we should pack it in communisms over

I'm sure there are no mitigating circumstances, like Communist parties being banned, or otherwise sabotaged by liberal parties. Democracy has never been perverted or distorted after all, especially when the US is at the helm.

lol

Is that why Boris Yeltsin had to be babied along in the election by his American advisors where they actively had to sabotage the Gorbachev tier communist party?
