Soviet history of the world

Saw this on the /r/socialism subreddit, the Soviet Union put out a two volume history of almost all the countries on the planet covering 1917 to 1990.

archive.org/details/ContempHistory1917 (goes to 1945)

archive.org/details/ContempHistory1946 (goes to 1990)

Seems moderately cool.

People should read more soviet-made textbooks. From my experience they are generally more informative and objective than western liberal books.

There is a Soviet textbook covering 1640 to 1870 in Europe and America: archive.org/details/ModernHistory16401870

bump

How is the 1946-1990 book?

There's actually a larger edition of that 1917-1945 work published a few years before (1985 instead of 1989)

Depends on the subject. I don't think there is objectivity when it comes to the Soviets covering their own history or the history of "fraternal" states.

All the soviet books Ismail has uploaded

Soviet Encyclopedia is pretty good too, wish I knew where to get the full English translation.

this is good

The author must have felt really weird writing the second book.

I want an English version of Soviet encyclopedia too!

It's dozens of volumes, I doubt it's ever coming out in English

It was published in English in the 1970's. That's how you can find it online.

I prefer physical copy.

So are the books in OP reliable?

...

Zig Forums is operated by the government?
internet archive is operated by the government?

OP didn't say that at all, just said they were from the Soviet Union.

the 1990 book is terribly scanned

oh cool
it'd be neat to have it in physical though
