This is a society that inundates its populace with pop culture and mass media about what attractive couples should look like, you'd have to be insanely dense to not see how that can have an adverse effect on people's expectations. That's not to say that 500lb landwhales need to be seen as being just as attractive as supermodels, but I think there absolutely is a problem of unrealistic expectations for a lot of people due to capitalist media.

You could make the point that seeing things through the lens of bourgeois ideology is deleterious to relationships, and I'd be inclined to agree. You could even say that in selling commodities, Capitalism has corrupted relationships through bad ideas about love, honesty, etc.. But, there is so much biological, cultural, (insert fact of humanity) that goes into this I don't know how anyone here can boldfaced declare it's due to X, without a legitimate essay backing up what you're saying.

Some of this is due to modern liberal ideology, creating a fantasy "male" that women strive toward. Attraction isn't entirely natural but a function of what we're made to see as desirable as well, playing on basic desires for health, proportionality, and so on.
