The USSR is a historical nation that lasted from 1917 to decades longer at the end of the century in the early 1990's. It was longer lived than Rhodesia. It was larger than Rhodesia and had larger infrastructural capacity than Rhodesia.

It was at one of those small hobby shows for enthusiasts where people fly in for the day, have lunch and then take off. I was watching an older guy and his wife spinning up the propeller for their two-seat biplane, which might have been a restored Tiger Moth. Interwar prop plane from the 1930s.
The propeller got going, he started pushing the plane as his wife hopped in – this was the takeoff procedure – and I noticed a Rhodesian flag painted on the side by the pilot seats. I said to the friend I was with… "hey that's a Rhodesian flag!" The pilot heard and asked "how did you know that?" I don't know if he was Rhodesian but he had a funny accent and I'm assuming he was. Wasn't British, Irish or Australian. And I remarked something about "oh I read about it." Then he hopped in the moving plane and took off. I'm sure he's flying around right now, living on in the skies.
No matter what, Rhodesia was unsustainable. A white fantasy land with a mentality stuck in the 19th century that had no bearing on reality, but attractive in a Lost Cause way akin to the Confederacy. Like the Rhodesian pilot, they had their heads in the clouds.

First off, no. Secondly, you can thank the Nazis for the w.hite genocide they committed against the Soviets that caused tens of millions of Soviet children and grand-children to never be born.
Thirdly, Russia was only part of the USSR when it broke up, her former sister republics took a large part of its population with them–prior to the breakup it was more populous than the US. Finally, the complete restoration of capitalism in the USSR in the 90s caused a massive mortality and births crisis that caused the population to shrink by tens of millions.
