It's basically inactive at the moment, but we could colonize it in the name of Leftypol. This could be big.
Let's start making articles about useful shit you know. Explain things from a broad socialist perspective. Go into topics of interests to us. We could use some articles on Cockshott and cybernetics. Guides on praxis would be useful as well. This can become anything we want it to be.
This thread can be a place to organize our efforts to make this work. What do you want to see on this Wiki?
inb4 feds swarm it with contributors to turn it into a honeypot/disinfo machine.
Gabriel Taylor
That seems a little redundant considering they already control wikipedia.
Kayden Murphy
That's not even remotely the point. Do you think they would abide something putting forth actual communist content without infiltrating it? Something as easily infiltrated as a wiki?
Jordan Gutierrez
I'm not sure, but wouldn't it be obvious if they started spreading blatant misinformation?
Brody Fisher
Blatant misinformation isn't the problem. The problem is twisting information just enough to pass for the truth but to be unproductive. See: socialist subreddits.
Leo Perry
There are some minor issues with the site. The security certificate seems to be broken, and I can't get an uploaded image to display.
Either way, I'm working on an article on Paul Cockshott. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to include?
That kind of attitude would defeat any online communist organizing. We can still try getting this off the ground.
this looks better, we should concentrate on one. Thanks based Cockshottwriter
Kayden Williams
enjoy getting assraped by some "security" agency
Sebastian Cox
TOR is funded by the USG, it is broken by the NSA and CIA. Not a good choice. Still, none of the options posted ITT have viable security practices.
Cameron Thomas
If TOR is compromised then I'm fully at a loss here since I'm a opsec newfaggot.
Also anti-sage.
Nathaniel Moore
We can't just yoink a site. They could shut us down at a moments notice?
What about this one? Are they secure? I know enough to write a little but I'd go insane if I got couped by some faggots on a fucking communist wiki.
Nathan White
this is the problem, none of the ones posted have a clear outline of how they're supposed to function.
Eli Adams
How are we going to set up our own Wiki though? I think using an existent one for our own purposes is fine. We're all part of the communist left.
Adam Thomas
This one looks alright as well. My issue is that anarcho-communists and other non-Marxist leftists will be unlikely to use it. That's a problem if we want a broad userbase.
Zachary Mitchell
This one looks good, but what if it's run by some shithead who will delete any contributions he doesn't like? This seems like a person who would be annoyed by too much Lenin or Mao on their wiki. >Marxistpedia is a wiki project established in 2017 dedicated to providing accurate information about Marxism and to educate aspiring Marxists and those interested in the tradition. We emphasise textual analysis on original works written by Marx & Engels, rather than texts written by 'Marxsits' which isn't to say we never use contemporary theorists—just that we are weary of misconstruction.
Also, non-Marxist socialists probably won't use it.
Connor Barnes
Perfect, retards OUT.
You realize I could literally be a 40 year old FBI agent? I could be a 16 year old kekistani meme magic worshipper trolling Le socialists. We can't guarantee who has access to this, and that's a huge issue. Even if we had some sort of formal "proof" of leftism, there are plenty of "leftist" ideologies that are retarded. Anprims, for one. This requires some thought and actual ownership of a site to be effective, and it doesn't seem like we really have either. How expensive are servers? It's not like there are hundreds of thousands of us; the site could be small and serve it's purpose.
Lincoln Johnson
You know, before posting on a wiki about your awesome life as a Kaustskyist Anarcho-Keynesian DeLeonist TERF weeaboo Papist-suprematist, maybe you should clean up first. Both wikis are infested with spambots, as you can see by looking at the recent changes.
Nolan Evans
I wanted to do that. Do you know how you delete pages?
The "infestation" doesn't seem to be too bad. It's only contained to some user-pages I believe.
Daniel Rivera
You don't need to delete a page to delete what's on it…
Jacob Morris
"We" probably don't want that, tbh.
Zachary Perry
It's run by myself. I generally don't delete entries unless it's spam.
I don't know if there is such thing as a Zig Forums archive but if there is you can search LeftWiki and see that a few of us have already been debating this idea recently.
From the debate we took a few lessons: one dude who used to be from RationalWiki explained how cliques came to dominate it back when it didn't suck, and turn it into a pissfest of retarded liberal politics. Because of that I think we shouldn't just jump on to any project out there, the Wiki has to be owned and run by people we trust and we know are able to respond to cliques and to potential right-wing vandalism without abusing their power and enraging potential collaborators. We'd also need to know beforehand where to draw the line between what is and isn't a left-wing perspective on a subject.
Second, since we have a history of never taking any of those projects forward, and since most online Left-wing projects are pretty much abandoned, we'd need a plan and structure beforehand, instead of just dropping a link and expecting user-created content to do the rest. Most people will not take the time to work on a project they already expect to die soon, and it's important to kick it off well.
One way to fix that is by planning ahead: having a list of entries to be written, an organized community with a division of labor deciding who writes what (even if it's a small one, 10 people and a couple of months would do), a digital library to check for information and sources while writing on each article, etc. Once it has enough well-written articles to get people to realize it's a serious project, we start pushing it to the public.
