GUYS, IT'S 2018! COMMUNISM CAN NEVER WORK! IT NEVER CAN...

Tbh the US would be trying to stop an international court ruling agreeed to by Chile (they agreed because they think they can win, who knows who will), it would be like them trying to veto a treaty between India and Bangladesh over their conclave borders.

Okay, so I watched a part of it and noctied some bs right off the bat.

He was extraordinarily lenient on the US involvement in South America and he missed some coups they funded.

He also straIght up lied about US involvement in Venezuela.

Like when Pompeo threatened Regime change.

Or the leaked state department folder on Venezuela.

Or how US based western NGOs funded the opposition.

Or how the US funded the opposition as well, to the tune of 49 million dollars.

I'm not disputing there's a lot of problems in Venezuela, but the perception and narrative here is totally fucking warped. I'd also highly dispute their freedom to assemble, the opposition protested everyday for nearly 6 months and were incredibly violent, including stealing a helicopter and tossing grenades at the supreme court. Could you even imagine what the response in the US would be if protestors stole a helicopter and threw grenades at the supreme court?

Now the opposition is talking about boycotting the upcoming elections altogether. Talk about undermining democracy. Just because you don't show up doesn't mean the system doesn't exist. If anyone anywhere takes election boycotts and gives them credence, you can undermine democracy anywhere.

They are literally the most heavily internationally monitored elections in world history. Go and read the reports from the Carter Center, the EU electoral commission agency, the Foundation for Democratic Advancement, the Council of Latin American Electoral Experts and more. There's a reason Jimmy Carter called the Venezuelan elections "the best in the world".

Pssst.. Those "sham elections" were ratified by the The Latin American Council of Electoral Experts, who had over 1300 observers there, mostly anti-chavista, and called them "clean and transparent" and found no large problems with them whatsoever. The opposition party that lost those elections has also conceded they were clean (after, of course, giving the US press a few days to spread the story that they weren't).

In reality, Venezuelans believe their country is the most democratic in the hemisphere when polled by a fanatically anti-chavista, neoliberal polling agency who, year after year, when they do this study, try to explain this embarrassing statistic away.

latinobarometro.org/latOnline.jsp

Only between 7 and 11% of Venezuelans say their country is undemocratic, and when you cross reference that with their class, it is only the displaced former elite who say that, with virtually no one from a middle class or working class background responding that way. Even those belonging to the opposition party, who keep getting dunked on year after year, give the country an average score of 5 out of 10 democratically.

Fuck sake John.

To be a fly on the wall in that writing room…

Neither of them were as plugged in to the US-centered global economy, and both of them have robust sectors providing basic goods for the domestic market.

Really, I'm not sure if it is laziness or malice. Mouthing liberal platitudes mixed with shallow jokes is a lot easier than actually digging into the issue and crafting appropriate jokes. The little podcast spoof was the closest they came, if only the entire episode was at least on that level…

Good take. All leftists should take this to heart; the failiure to truly grapple with this kind of economic warfare was a reason Syriza in Greece failed as painfully as it did. They did not have a plan or the stomach for guerilla economic warfare. These things should be studied in detail and plans drawn up to know what to start doing "the day after", for say o Labour victory in the UK. I hope they have secret study groups working on this.

He didn't say anything that was untrue. Maduro fucked up and you all need to take off your ideology goggles

Pure lobster ideology, eh?
