But isn't he saying he does support equality, just that he personally doesn't like "lgbt behavior"? That's the opposite of catering.

It's funny that reactionaries who are obsessed with 'science' refuse to understand or get caught up with the current scientific literature on homosexuality or gender dysphoria.
Homosexuality is not a mental illness. Believing otherwise doesn't make you a "rational skeptic", it makes you a fucking idiot.

The APA removed homosexuality from the DSM in 1974 because it was determined that homosexuality, in and of itself, does not have negative psychological effects and that there's no evidence of homosexual patients responding positively to psychiatric treatment.
The evidence is overwhelming that homosexuality is a normal and harmless variation of human sexuality and sexual identity.
I don't think homosexuality is degenerate or evil, but I don't see any reason why it should be normalized or celebrated either. I really don't see a reason why sexual politics should be a thing. Sexual politics has been a poison to the left and to socialism for the longest time.

I'm gay and find this whole thing to be pretty funny. I briefly considered that maybe my sexuality was somehow a byproduct of Western capitalism but ditched that idea after meeting gay people from the third world who hated Western capitalism with a passion and were just as flaming. Instead of listening to Barbra Streisand they were into Pakistani divas like Abida Parveen.
Radically different culture from my own but also very familiar. IMO within the liberal press there's a kind of pat-on-the-head "good for you for being gay!" tone that I find patronizing. I just want people to leave me the fuck alone, and they largely have because the religious right in my country has been destroyed. So it's odd to me that people are saying that gays are why the left is struggling when homophobia basically no longer has a place in the society. Where you from, anyways? I get the sense that a lot of Zig Forums is in Eastern Europe so it might be different.
Ah yup that'd explain it. I live in Texas. It's now considered weird here if you openly express homophobic views. That is a radical change from when I was kid when it was basically baseline normal to be anti-gay. I was anti-gay… and turned out to be gay! Crazy thing.
I basically decided a couple of years ago that you've only got one life to live and that I would simply stop caring what other people think. Friends, family members, does not matter. It's their loss if they don't like it. Straight people's opinions about homosexuality straight up do not matter, and it's not up to them whether it's "normalized" or not. We normalize it. I also don't care if you celebrate it or not. I don't care if you are homophobic even. You can have whatever views you want. If you try to hassle me about it then we'll have a problem but that's basically it.
I also think it's a very Texan attitude. We're a state of proud everything. Proud rednecks, proud dumbasses, proud whites, proud blacks, proud fats, proud oil executives, proud Mexicans, proud gays, and so on and so on to infinity.
In regard to the "behavior", yeah. I'm not saying throw them in a gulag or anything like that, I just personally don't like it.

"Normal" is a meme. Fuck off.
It's the "I'm economically socialist but culturally conservative" of lgbt dog whistle bullshit.

OK. So why has it existed before capitalism?

What the fuck is 'gay behaviour', barley any gay people act differently from straight people, chances are you see a dozen gay people every day and have no clue

Not gay behavior as in some "innate gay behavior", but the kind of flamboyant over the top culture that's been built around being gay and the attitudes some gay people take as a consequence.
