Hey, if he'd played his cards right and hadn't been an edgelord he might have ended high up in the ranks; West Point is where most of the top brass were trained. Lenin argued for Bolsheviks to organize in the military if they were drafted and not avoid conscription. The Bolsheviks actually had sizable sympathies with the rank-and-file soldier

This is honestly something I've been thinking about for a bit. Like, on the one hand I understand the idea of educating and organising conscripts and that conscription itself provides workers with weapons and training in their use; on the other hand states have moved away from conscription basically everywhere. I still don't know how a communist could consciously go ahead and volunteer for service in an imperialist military (at least, not in a combat role) but then at the same time, I can understand why (for lack of a better phrase) "non-political" people volunteer because I did it myself at one point; if my eyesight was a little better I'd probably be driving a tank in Germany or something right now instead of studying computer science.

So now I've reflected on it a little I guess I don't think that there's no value in educating and organising volunteers, considering I went from a generic "apolitical" with vague feelings of "doing the right thing" to where I am now in the space of two years more or less "naturally". Throw in actual periods of war, unrest and general agitation and I guess you'd have that on a wider scale - is there any precedent for how all-volunteer armies could become revolutionary? Genuine question.

I realise this is probably not gonna get replied to because it's been days and the thread is anchored, but fuck it I typed a lot and it's like 2AM so whatever.
