Alright, since I am both American and grew up poor, I might be able to answer this. I'm probably just going to rant about the states a bit while I'm at it, too.
The United States is what you'd probably call "brainwashed." Maybe there's a better term for it, but I don't know. Now, I realize people outside the states still have kind of weird ideas about politics, and what words mean, since most of us posting here live in liberal democracies, but in America it's on a whole 'nother level.
I bring this up is for multiple reasons. One, people think literally any economic assistance for people is communism, and communism=bad! Even Social-Democracy is "radical left" to a lot of them. Things most western countries have, such as single-payer healthcare, is considering a "burden on the working class". You wanna know why? A lot of the taxes aren't taken from rich people, they're taken from poor proles. Therefore, anytime a new program would be implemented, it'd have to be the poor who pay for it, not the rich. You ever hear about the taxes companies dodge and the tax cuts they're constantly given? That's what I mean. Of course, you can't point fingers at rich people, as that'd be "CLASS WARFARE" and "STIFLING JOB CREATION", whatever the hell that means. Also, poor white communities who often are given nobody to blame but minorities for their problems are told that those programs would only help minorities who would "steal their money".
Another reason I call Americans "brainwashed" is their fetishization of the military. They, really, REALLY like the military. A lot of them legitimately think that when troops go overseas to shoot brown people they're protecting American "freedoms". A ton of American taxpayer money goes to the military industrial complex. It's a great way to justify your lack of funds: you're fighting for freedom! Or, well, shooting sand people is good too, I guess, because they're not people, they're Muslims!
We're also caught up in the retardation of "two-party" politics a lot. We're functionally a one-party state, as the parties don't have any real difference other than social issues (which they don't actually give a fuck about), but it's played up like it's this huge ideological battle between opposing titans all the time. People here literally think the Democrats are hardcore commies, for example, even though they do basically the same damn thing as Republicans but with a more "diverse" face. This divides people on completely bullshit lines so they can't see the actual problems confronting them.
Also, "capitalist realism". A lot of us think this is "just how the world works" and it's "common sense" how our system is run. It's not they don't want an alternative: it's that they don't even think another system is possible.
Oh, and before I forget, "social darwinism" is a massive thing here. No matter where you are, if you're "more successful", you're just a better person than other people. Think about all the dumbass libertarian nerds who practically worship Elon Musk, or the MAGAtards who idolize Donald Trump. It's all about competing. You can see the attitude even in our school system, which has rampant bullying and violence.
So yeah, those are a few reasons burgers "tolerate" their current system, I suppose. I probably got off topic there, but I hope I helped a little bit in giving you an idea of "why" this shit happens. There's plenty more reasons, and I barely scraped the top of the barrel, but these were the first things that came to mind.
