American politics general

Figured I'd make this thread so we can get some containment instead of a new thread for every Trump tweet or state election.

I might start bumplocking threads related to american politics and redirect people here but don't expect any bans or deletions. If it's significant and/or affects the rest of the world feel free to make a thread for it instead of containing it here.

What else would we talk about? This is an English language board.

English speaking countries by population:
USA: 326,733,409
UK: 66,568,069
Canada: 36,948,699
Australia: 24,766,653

So that's like a 198mil difference between our population and the next three combined.

Literally everything else but american politics. You americans have a totally different way of understanding marxism than the rest of the world, your "battles" are not our battles.
r/socialism is the exemplification of American socialism, americans here want r/socialism with swearing

So why don't you go make an Esperanto board or something?

Like logically, any language besides English, and you'd probably not have a single American there. Yet you choose to hang out on the English language board, why is that?

Tbh maybe this is an intresting idea about US politics and issues…

Because esperanto is cancer. Stalin had the right line to with Esperanto

Is there another communist board on this site? Also english belongs to the British first, then the americans. I have no problem with English, I just can't stand you guys spamming the board with your petty concerns and faux politics. I don't give a shit if the board were to be much slower, i'd rather have that than americans.
Forcing so much attention to american politics is just another form of americanization a.k.a. Imperialism

Attached: D1OvSlZ.jpg (720x1003, 192.57K)

Womp Womp.
I already explained to you in: We make up the majority of native English speakers on the planet. All other native English speakers are irrelevant by comparison.

Attached: corey-lewandowski-womp-womp.jpg (2048x1024, 187.06K)

And I already told you that I don't give a shit about that. I'd rather have a board with the velocity of /marx/ than talking politics with Americans.
Also china is the largest English speaking country in the world.

Bullshit. I've never met a Chinese immigrant with what I would call passable English. That has to be one of the lowest levels of passable English from a foreign country out there. Chinese is a fucking tonal language. I don't try to speak Chinese and Chinese can't speak English passably.

Just out of curiosity, what was Stalin's issue with Esperanto?

Brainlet detected.

Most people here are ESLs, dumb burger.

Attached: pepe cig.png (500x338, 44.14K)

Yeah but why did you choose English? You know we didn't pick your irrelevant language.

pic related. I'm curious, how many languages are (you) fluent at?

Attached: ClipboardImage.png (482x800, 68.27K)

1 dude. English. Which is exactly my point. We're here communicating about our country in this language because it's the only one we know, what's your excuse?

Because English is a convenient language to talk with other ESLs. Most people here are not native english speakers but they do speak english with eachother for convenience.

this will probably help them in the long run by fucking up cuck unions and forcing people to take unionizing seriously.

This might actually be a great thing long run. Unions have a top down membership structure which makes it easy for capitalists to buy out labor union leaders and cause union leaders to stop revolutionary anger. A death blow to labor unions will not get rid of worker anger and workers will fight back in other ways. They will develop rank and file memberships and protest against capital in an organic way. We can only hope.

I think your optimism is misplaced.
People in the west are incredibly pacified imo. Real change hinges on factors like unemployment and the price of food.

It's fun watching the fascists dismantle the collaborationist unions that make their rule possible in the first place. Unfortunately the next step is more open intimidation of striking workers, not just by cops but the right wing militias that are sure to expand when there's a wave election in support of social democratic reforms.
I want to be optimistic about the collapse of the neoliberal consensus but there's a good chance it just lead to more dysfunction and less subtle repression.

No, these are just liberals. They haven't been scratched… yet.

Also, the fire rises.

liberals are fascists even if you don't scratch them

Because it's the lingua franca of our time, sadly. This should not be hard to understand.

What? How?

since the Kennedy thread got hotpocketed, I guess discussion goes here
nbcnews.com/politics/supreme-court/justice-kennedy-retire-trump-can-solidify-court-s-majority-conservative-n887066

Kennedy leaving is huge, especially for idpol stuff. He is the pivotal vote on abortion, gay rights, affirmative action.
Roe v Wade could conceivably be overturned which would be full retard and would cause a major backlash.

Can't wait for the Supreme Court to find universal healthcare, education and labor reforms, and mobilization against climate change unconstitutional. How the fuck are we getting out of this mess without a constitutional convention?

Through a revolution. Or a slide into neofeudalism

Don't forget medical marijuana too.

Literally this.

The whole basis of the current scale of the federal government is a grotesque interpretation of a few clauses of the constitution.
It remains to be seen whether originalism will triumph or stare decisis. We could be entering a new Locher era, as some smart user said in the last thread, or the court might exercise restraint and follow precedent.

Schumer just made some great comments on the senate floor. McConnel is going to be exposed as a massive hypocrite as they railroad someone into a vacancy right before an election, in contrast to his rhetoric in 2016.

Dem leadership is already divided it seems. Here's Blumenthal's take.

Attached: DguJqcRW4AAlwco.jpg large.jpg (745x705, 122.43K)

Oh no. What will all of those rural hillbillies do if they can't bitch about their unborn babies?

Seriously, I almost feel bad for rural America. They're going to face a reckoning once the dust clears (and perhaps before it).

McConnell is practically guaranteeing a Democrat take over this year. The response to this will be fucking massive.

What?

you would think they would have choir practice and contingency plans in place for these sort of things to avoid that.

the most likely outcome is that the senate will hold and congress will flip
the senate map in 2018 is incredibly favorable to republicans

True, but will still be a defeat if the Democrats manage to keep their seats in the Senate, which I see as a very possible outcome.

If the democrats hold in 2018, it would be a tactical victory for them but also strategic defeat.
The republicans can still do some work with a narrow majority in the senate.
The nuclear option has already been invoked. McConnell only need 50 votes and Pence to fill executive vacancies and appoint judges.

the republican reckoning will come in 2020 when we lose the presidency

The way I see it, the rural red states chose their own destruction with Trump. If his trade war doesn't kill them, the retaliation from his policies will do it for sure.

Just another mess we're going to be stuck cleaning for years.

However, one benefit is that the nominees have been fucking horrible, which will make them easier to impeach.

It feels like Trump and the GOP are overplaying their hand and are looting as much as they can before resigning en masse. The Dems will inherit the mess and struggle to overcome the institutional barriers to reform like the need to stack the Supreme Court, as well as their own radicalized base that has no time for their prevaricating consensus politics. Congressional leadership will need to change for both parties and the third rail issues like unlimited military spending will have to be on the chopping block. Honestly this feels like the bottom falling out of the political system before a period of crisis, like immediately before the civil war.

American here, I've been to dozens of movies and nobody's clapped at the end, why would they? They're not in the same room as the actors or anything.

2020s probably mid to late is when the US will collapse

I bet on 2019 to be honest.
The EU however will bite the dust first.

Trump has nominated some dumbasses, but Republican senators haven't been letting them through.

too soon. Expect social unrest during the next recession though, especially with the way various welfare programs are being axed or have more and more requirements to weed out people

We all predicted that the stock market would be feeling pain in September-October, but it is going to fucking throttle us way, way sooner than we all think is. At least if GDP numbers gets fucked.

I think the country is already engaged in a civil war, but it's not one being waged with traditional weapons.

if they install a right wing justice in SCOTUS they're gonna transform the whole country. and they're getting away with it unchallenged. it feels like the boot is on our necks already.

Ok dude, I'm pretty sure I hate the US as much as you but you can't possibly be so reactionary as to hate all americans, even other socialists.

meh, it's more of an internal government struggle, I wouldn't call it a civil war

Yeah, a palace civil war between those who lined up behind Clinton in 2016 and their enemies. The hysterical Russiagate bullshit was their attempt to oust Trump with a manufactured media driven scandal.

Constitutional convention at this point = right-wing takeover of the country, I'm afraid to say. Maybe after shit REALLY hits the fan it would be different, but the right has been planning the convention route for some time in order to destroy the Social Security Act and make it functionally illegal for such programs to exist.

Lol, Democrats are dead. They aren't taking over shit this year even if entire GOP were revealed to be a front for child molestation on a massive scale. The Democratic Party today exists to raise money for the Party bosses and its attached consultants, not actually win elections. There's nothing that is going to overcome the disgust most people have when they look at the Democratic Party. Even the centrists they're trying to cater to don't like the Democrats and are constantly finding excuses to vote Republican because centrism lol. There just isn't anything to draw people to the twisted wreckage that is the Democratic Party that didn't exist for the past couple of decades, and the people who do vote Democrat are slowly getting kicked off the voter rolls, die, or are too exhausted from overwork to go to the polls. The Republicans know what they want and they're going to get it, and their voter base isn't shrinking.

I doubt it unless the Republicans primary Trump or something stupid like that. It's not out of the realm of possibility because the Republicans, for all the electoral advantage they've built up, are fucking stupid. The Republicans know now that their ticket to the top is white nationalism. So long as they stay within certain boundaries and don't tell people outright they're cutting social security (just lie about it until "oops, we have to cut entitlements"), the GOP has a strong advantage in 2020. The only thing I could possibly see upsetting that is Bernie 2020 but even then I expect centrist Democrats to McGovern his ass.

That's my prediction too. I'm expecting 2028-2029, or whenever the SS Trust Fund officially runs out (because we all know they're not going to levy new taxes). 2020 and beyond is going to be an absolute shitshow that makes Trump look tame, I can say that much.

America has functionally been a police state since the second world war, killed off a lot of the vestigial democracy with Nixon, and took overt steps to outright fascism with Bush Jr. Police states are messy and inefficient. If there is a civil war, it's a very one-sided one.

Hilldogs are blaming Jill Stein for this. Lol.

Most republican careerists I know voted against Trump and are spooked by the Sailer Strategy.
I don't think the institution of the GoP is capable of going white nat. Their constituents want it, but the institution itself is resisting it.

The GOP constituency is broken as fuck and destined for implosion.

This is already playing out in the House. Moderates and radicals literally can't agree on shit save a tax cut.

big tent politics is a messy business
the grass isn't any greener across the aisle

one of the more comforting thoughts on days like this is not having a vote for Hillary on my conscience. imagine voting for the person who lost to donald trump, lol

why is a communist board internationalist?

...

You need to brush up more on civics. The SCOTUS can rule Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional, and the collected funds should go to budgetary concerns of Congress. Unless 75% ofthe House and Senate work together with 3/4ths of State Governors to make an amendment to the contrary SCOTUS has the last say. They are the single greatest authority in U.S. politics outside insurrection or unprecedented 75% majority state and federal bipartisan votes. The SCOTUS can go so far as to deem fair elections illegitimate or unfair elections legitimate as was shown in 2001 with GWB (and current Voting Rights rulings). It's basically filled with shills with no regard for the Bill of Rights or democracy right now, so…

Why and / or how the fuck do Burgers continue to tolerate this?

Why did you post the edited version.

Alright, since I am both American and grew up poor, I might be able to answer this. I'm probably just going to rant about the states a bit while I'm at it, too.

The United States is what you'd probably call "brainwashed." Maybe there's a better term for it, but I don't know. Now, I realize people outside the states still have kind of weird ideas about politics, and what words mean, since most of us posting here live in liberal democracies, but in America it's on a whole 'nother level.

I bring this up is for multiple reasons. One, people think literally any economic assistance for people is communism, and communism=bad! Even Social-Democracy is "radical left" to a lot of them. Things most western countries have, such as single-payer healthcare, is considering a "burden on the working class". You wanna know why? A lot of the taxes aren't taken from rich people, they're taken from poor proles. Therefore, anytime a new program would be implemented, it'd have to be the poor who pay for it, not the rich. You ever hear about the taxes companies dodge and the tax cuts they're constantly given? That's what I mean. Of course, you can't point fingers at rich people, as that'd be "CLASS WARFARE" and "STIFLING JOB CREATION", whatever the hell that means. Also, poor white communities who often are given nobody to blame but minorities for their problems are told that those programs would only help minorities who would "steal their money".

Another reason I call Americans "brainwashed" is their fetishization of the military. They, really, REALLY like the military. A lot of them legitimately think that when troops go overseas to shoot brown people they're protecting American "freedoms". A ton of American taxpayer money goes to the military industrial complex. It's a great way to justify your lack of funds: you're fighting for freedom! Or, well, shooting sand people is good too, I guess, because they're not people, they're Muslims!

We're also caught up in the retardation of "two-party" politics a lot. We're functionally a one-party state, as the parties don't have any real difference other than social issues (which they don't actually give a fuck about), but it's played up like it's this huge ideological battle between opposing titans all the time. People here literally think the Democrats are hardcore commies, for example, even though they do basically the same damn thing as Republicans but with a more "diverse" face. This divides people on completely bullshit lines so they can't see the actual problems confronting them.

Also, "capitalist realism". A lot of us think this is "just how the world works" and it's "common sense" how our system is run. It's not they don't want an alternative: it's that they don't even think another system is possible.

Oh, and before I forget, "social darwinism" is a massive thing here. No matter where you are, if you're "more successful", you're just a better person than other people. Think about all the dumbass libertarian nerds who practically worship Elon Musk, or the MAGAtards who idolize Donald Trump. It's all about competing. You can see the attitude even in our school system, which has rampant bullying and violence.

So yeah, those are a few reasons burgers "tolerate" their current system, I suppose. I probably got off topic there, but I hope I helped a little bit in giving you an idea of "why" this shit happens. There's plenty more reasons, and I barely scraped the top of the barrel, but these were the first things that came to mind.

Attached: stalin feels.jpg (503x581, 62.81K)

your country is the retarded one, not ours, gringo

Have faith man. Tons of Americans are waking up to this shit. We've only been on a scale that's this bad for less than 100 years so there's a real chance that change could start to happen in our lifetimes. Just keep helping people wake up to the bullshit and over time change will be possible.

all these things can be resumed by just the fact that the bourgeois is the default subject in the american mind, think about it, people are encouraged to identify their perspective with the one of capitalists from a young age, despite whatever class they might be in, it explains all of it, just look at their tv to see how this is, all tv shows are from the perspective of the rich, there is no shows about poor people, literally all are about pseudo rich assholes who face no money problem, and when they are poor and face problems then their poverty is looked as either the result of their own imcompetence, or their own lack of moral virtue

Burger here, it's because of the protestant work ethic meme and a belief that literally everything happens due to your own hand. Remember, we're talking about people who are proud of the fact that while they might have had to eat dirt for months at a time at least they never got food stamps.

why?

I am willing to bet my left nut there are more communists that speak english as a second language than there are native english speaking communists.

All americans are retards. I have never met a single fucking exception. Even the ones who claim to be socialist are fucking retarded.

Wew that is an unbelievably hot take, kill yourself. I mean jesus christ how can you say faux politics and then say that? Holy fuck if there was literally any doubt that retardation is spread across all nations, here it is.

Nothing. Yezhov went after Esperanto speakers.

I don't believe this, but wouldn't this also an indictment of Stalin's leadership and competence?
