Does Zig Forums know much about the Troubled Teen Industry? Kids were and still are being sold to dangerous people by their parents to get "help" but often times this just leaves the kid with PTSD.
Tales From the Black School and /r/TroubledTeens are great resources if you're interested in this subject. This is one of America's darkest secrets and it deserves to be exposed.

Yeah there are loads of creepy "non-profits" that are exploiting these kids. Trafficking them, recruiting them to the military, using them for free labor, etc.

From what I've seen of them, they're barely effective, ultimately a waste of everybody's time, and probably just fuck up teens even more than when they first went in.

My parents use to threaten to put me into military school for the most benign shit e.g. mediocre grade, speaking back,taking too long in the shower etc.

the only thing that is seriously wrong when it comes to kids, is the modern neoliberal ideology that is getting drilled in their skulls since elementary schools till the rest of their life
kids are brought up believing their wealth and status in society is directly proportional to how they do in school aka "skills"
kids grow up into adults thinking that if you stay in school to which everyone has equal access and in which everyone is graded fairly and equally and meritocratically, you become a highly skilled and highly educated worker and earn profitable salary
this is why today people believe capitalism is meritocratic and there's no hope for class consciousness
