Exiles were helpful to the revolution too…

This is a good point, between American imperialism, media saturation, and propaganda efforts led by media personalities and/or think-tanks, everywhere is little bit (or a lot) like USAmerica.

On the other hand, as a burger, I really would like to move somewhere that doesn't have quite so many petty bourgeois home owners and class-cucks. The question is, where?

Cuba?

It's actually hard to move to Cuba they have strict inmigration laws for obvious reasons

Southern Oklahoma is 100% texas territory.

Is it possible to claim you are a political dissident? Some coastal region of South America might be a good destination. UK is also an option if Corbyn can achieve anything.

I've realized this, as a communist there are really very few countries where you're welcome, and even fewer that are stable. You could go somewhere that's currently better than the USA in many ways, but will it still be like that in 10 or 20 years?

If you're actually hunted by the feds maybe.

kek

It's not even petit-bourgeois. America is a country that is almost completely made up of Lumpenproletariat

don't get us twisted in the fray Comrade

Not anywhere near where I live. I literally emigrated because I didn't want americans near me

No recall
No recall.

Just embrace the collapse. Hopefully from the ashes of the old we can build anew

The US is still the imperial core, likely the effects of its demise will be felt hardest in the periphery first. And even if things go tits up in the heartland, you are likely safe if you live in a politically and culturally homogeneous enclave: coasts and cities for blues, rest of the country for the reds (and fuck the US party colour scheme while we are at it).

...

I emigrated from the U.S. two years ago to Latin America.

All in all, I don't like it here but I don't want to go back. Most people outside of the United States imagine that Americans are all wealthy, drive big cars, have big houses, etc. I have to explain to people that even though I worked two jobs I had to live in a house I shared with 7 people, was driving the same old car for years, and didn't have money to go out every weekend. It's only for that reason I've decided to remain in exile and avoid returning to the life of an American wage-slave.

But, like I said, I don't like it here either. There is very little accountability here as far as the government or police. Almost everyone is corrupt from the President of the Republic all the way down to the lowest paid employee. The saying is, "fuck or be fucked." You don't trust anyone and don't let your guard down, because people will rob you and rip you off at the first opportunity. It's not 100%, and I have met a few very good people here, but the overall culture is depressing. When a crime happens no one wants to get involved. Someone could rob you on the street in broad daylight and people will simply walk past you without so much as looking twice.

Things we take for granted in the U.S.: free public schools, clean drinking water (usually), low levels of crime (outside of some bad areas), and minor levels of corruption. Yes, some schools are shit quality, some towns have poisoned drinking water, and some cities are violent - but you leave the U.S. and you see that in many countries these things are often the norm and not the exception.

Is there any better place you would go, if you could?

Leaf here. My gf is eligible for UK citizenship (her mom was born there and has dual citizenship), and we are planning to get married when we finish Uni. I’m seriously worried about the US collapsing either into fascism or civil war, and subsequent spillover into Canada. Should I marry my gf and get UK citizenship in case we need to bail?

Which country specifically?

That's a good question and I don't know. I guess it depends on what you're looking for. For a long time there was a high demand for native English-speakers to teach in Asia. Places like South Korea and Japan pay very well if you can adjust to the culture. I'm not sure if there are as many opportunities anymore. I personally never considered moving to Asia simply because I can't speak any of the languages. Europe could be very cool but I have no reason to go there.

One of the things to consider when emigrating is that most countries have immigration policies designed to weed out poor people and attract rich foreigners. In Mexico, for example, you can basically buy permanent residency as long as you can prove you have around $100,000 in your bank account. You pay a fee and they'll just give you residency papers. Pretty cool if you're rich, pretty impossible for anyone else. Your other options are to get sponsored for a work visa (often difficult) or marry a local.

Mexico.

I've heard that Mexico has a peaceful interior and that most the violence is in the border states and Michoacán. Is this generally true?

In GULAG for reeducation.

You forgot to put on your ☭TANKIE☭ flag

No. Last year was the most violent on record in Mexico.

The capital itself is now extremely violent. People are robbed in broad daylight and at night in the bad areas you can hear, no shit, gun battles and drive-by shootings. They used to happen all the time where I lived. A couple months ago there were multiple robberies of shuttle-taxis outside my building. A month ago a dismembered corpse was found a few blocks away from here. During the same week there was some type of police operation to catch robbers. That happened next door to us and I could hear the gunshots. I've talked to some people about organizing something to fight crime here. The first person I talked to said he had already submitted a report to the police after someone threatened him but nothing came of it. The second person I talked to about the problem told me she had been mugged around noon a few blocks from here in the past month. The news from the countryside sounds just as bad. Lots of robbery and theft.

Who's doing it? Why does it happen?

1. People don't trust cops and won't report crimes.
2. Reported crimes are often not investigated, causing people to become cynical.
3. Local neighborhoods tend to protect their own criminals.

From what I can tell this isn't due to organized crime. It's a general breakdown of law and order. In the countryside there are increasing numbers of lynchings. People believe that it's better to kill criminals before the cops can arrest them, since an arrested criminal will probably pay a bribe and go free.

Don't we all.

Damn. I'm learning Spanish so that I can leave Texas (if I need to). Is Mexico the best Latin America has to offer?

Does anyone know about the situation in Spain (How bad is austerity, the job market, etc.)?

forgot to remove the flag

Why would you want to go to Latin America if you’re trying to excape Burgerland. Latin America is just Burgerland minus money.

...

OP don’t leave Burgerland will collapse into multi sided civil war in a decade or so, and the Red side will need all the soldiers it can have.

No, Mexico is particularly bad right now, if you want some broader statistics on the matter, as I can't speak on personal experience like other anons, Michael Roberts dropped a new blogpost going over some of the economic issues affecting the country in the wake of AMLO, it's in Newsanons thread from yesterday but

Link here: thenextrecession.wordpress.com/2018/07/02/mexico-violence-corruption-and-inequality-amlo-to-the-rescue/

No. Fighting for the left in a civil war is suicide. The best you could achieve is a coalition of city-states in a balkanized part of the country. The right has all the guns and the military purges leftists, while documenting fascists who get to stick around, learn combat and fire new weapons.

It's silly to tell anyone to be soldier for the left when they could just leave for greener pastures or find somewhere to wait out the collapse in peace. We're talking about living through the next 2 decades, and its clear that the left is not worth dying for in America. Remember the Republic of Spain? They lost because nobody would fund them or give them fuel, training, or weapons. It will be the same with any left resistance in the US. They'll be slaughtered like dogs. I would never tell anyone to fight for a side that will definitely lose. Live for your beliefs, instead of dying for them.

thank you

go ahead and kys then you defeatist faggot, you dont deserve to live in a better country if youre not willing to attempt to change yours.
just go live in a lefty stronghold and by a gun. if the stupid american army took months to free mosul from some goat fuckers holding the population hostage then they have no fuckin chance besieging a domestic city. just imagine the headlines if they use white phosphorous on citizens like they had to do against is.

You're anywhere from 150 to 80 years late buddy

surprise dude

you take for granted if you're not poor

UK is just as bad

You're being childish. I've looked at the left in the United States, and evaluated it fairly. When the US uses white phosphorous in its civil conflicts, the world will do nothing, just like in Israel.

dont be haughty americunt, i can bet youve never seen the outside of a suburb
look up some history, revolutions have been won with less support. why bother being a leftist if you cant even have faith in the people?
youre talking out of your fucking ass because youre a sheltered shit

You want to live in a socialist utopia like Cuba. The Cuban Revolution wasn’t achieved overnight. It took lot’s of hard work to achieve. Also the reason the left would lose a war her is because half of the people on the American left would rather flee than fight.

I had planned on moving to the UK years ago to be closer to someone but never found out how because I don't have much money or am skilled in any special career. I once was told I could get in by grabbing citizenship in any EU country through an ancestral visa or something if they have those but that's possibly a problem with Brexit now but I think the UK is either back out of Brexit entirely or replace it with some similar program that allows EU citizens to live there. I have grandparents from EU countries and commonwealth countries.

Lol Having faith in the people with the weaker weapons? You've got your own delusions. Also, when the revolution is a civil war, it takes more than outlasting whatever imperial power is backing your enemy.

I think people realize what they're up against and don't want to be victims of a neo-fascist firing squad. I'd rather go to a decent country and contribute there, than try and convince my country to give up the American Dream, and abandon the narrative that gives their lives any semblance of meaning. My country will allow slavery to reemerge before people give in to austerity and give up any superficial luxury they might have.

This thread is about the future for expatriates. It's time to forget the motivational rhetoric you might have heard about this or that election candidate, or fantasizing about revolution. We need to be looking at real resources, accounting for scarcity & climate change while looking forward towards a place that might hold a future.

Costa Rica is highly rated for the happiness of it's citizens iirc. If you take what money you have and go there it stretches much further than it would in the US.

Believe it or not my personal situation is actually better here despite all of the country's problems. That's ultimately why I don't go back to the U.S..

I'm not sure which countries would be good in Latin America right now. Mexico is going down the drain, Venezuela is under siege, Argentina has a looming financial crisis i think, Brazil is pretty much in chaos last I heard.

Spain was hit pretty hard by the last financial crisis and its percentage of unemployed is about 4x that of the U.S.. I met a Spaniard four years ago who told me the conditions were terrible and he had to quit a job after the owner kept delaying payment of wages to the workers. Things could be better right now but you'd have to investigate for yourself.

I guess you didn't read my post. That's cool. My life in the United States was pretty hard which is why I left. In the U.S. I worked with old guys who regularly dropped from heart attacks and blood clots at work. These guys were 50+ and stuck in a dead-end part-time shitty-ass job where they would most likely drop dead some day. That shit was depressing. Also saw people having to work without proper safety gear. Guys were inhaling concrete and carcinogenic sawdust.

Being an expatriate sounds really cool when you see guys uploading videos on youtube and shit but those people are largely wealthy and/or retirees. If you're still working the reality is much, much different. The culture clash between Western capitalist countries and the developing world can be pretty big. There was a Chinese-speaking user who posted his experiences working with steel manufacturers in China and said he hated working in China and had wished he had chosen to do something else. I don't hate Mexico but now I have a much better appreciation of national differences. Being an expatriate really opens your eyes to how much the global system is rigged against working people, as well.

I think China could achieve great things over the next 20 years but I don't know if I'd want to move there.

True but it’s not about to collapse into a civil war.
