- Allow the state to "allow a community composed of people of the same faith or nationality to maintain an exclusive community.”
- End Arabic recognition as an offical language

The relationship the USSR had with Israel could be the subject of an entire career for a historian, but in short during after the Arab Israel war in exchange for various shit the USSR let a load of jews leave for Israel, after the dissolution of the USSR even more went. Now these jews met-up with the already existing Russo-hebrew population in Israel which had left following the pogroms (the birth of settlement in the Levant) and during the Russian civil war.
Now I make the distinction of Russo-hebrew rather than just "jew from eastern europe or russia" for a specific reason. See a lot of the jewish population in the Western Russian empire, and later USSR lived in an area called the Pale of Settlement. Now this later kind of jew was yiddish, working class, supportive of the USSR and the cause of communism (although things worsened under the immediate pre-war period of Stalin's rule but that is a story for another time). They also tended to be anti-zionist for several reasons, most notably: Zionism's rejection of yiddish identity (thus secular reasons for zionism), the fact they rejected the religious reasons for zionism, and as is put in a song of the time "We will stay in Russia, to fight Tsar Nicholas". However, most of this section of the jewish population were massacred during the Great Patriotic War and the Holocaust.
Now the other section of the jewish population are these Russo-Hebrew lot I am talking about. These were either middle-class urbanites in Moscow or Petersburg, or landowners in the East of European Russia. They had been very well "integrated" with Russian society (speaking Russian as their day-to-day language rather than Yiddish) and tended to support the whites. Now when the USSR rolled around they mostly did fine in the end, since a lot of their property was rendered useless by the Russian civil war anyways.
However they still wanted to leave the USSR and thus became enamoured with zionism. During the 1930s the USSR tried to deal with this in two ways: first was supporting the yiddish jewish population and the second was the creation of the Jewish Autonomous Oblast as a "Siberian Zion", the ormer worked until the nazis fucking murdered everyone and the latter failed quite spectacularly. So fast-forward, these kind of the jews in Russia move en-masse to Israel. Now they speak Hebrew being zionist enthusiasts however also keep Russian to the extent that "Russian speakers' rights" is now a political stance in Israeli politics. There is also an interesting side-effect to all of this, a lot of the children who were brought-over or raised in Israel from the wave of those that left after the dissolution of the USSR are actually starting to reject Israeli society: they don't see themselves as jewish (they are mostly atheists) and they mostly speak Russian so a lot of people don't like them. As a result, and I am not fucking kidding, they are becoming LITERAL Nazis, like actual "gas the jews 14/88" Nazis. Israel doesn't know how to act to this because they never expected to have to deal with legitimate, bona fide nazis and thus have no swastika laws or anything like that. However regardless, it is this section of the Israel population that is now in-power, and it is trying to assert its ethnic dominance over the rest of Israeli society: and a lot of even zionist jews are fucking pissed off about that.
And within Israel around 17% of the jewish population are Haredi. This is kinda important since a) they are exempted from military service (mostly, will get back to that) and b) tend to be anti-political, taking an abstentionist attitude to Israeli politics akin to those of the Irish Republicans. Now recently they have been under attack by this Russo-Hebrew elite by trying to force them more and more into conscription to the extent there are now frequent draft riots. Those from the Haredi political community are even working with leftwing activists now as a broad-front against Zionism. With this nation-state bill it is fucking them off even more, we are getting to the point where we see an IRA-style resistance movement (not bombings mind, think more "Free Derry") from the Haredi. This are not at peace in the land of Eretz Yisrael.

"Failed" is putting it nicely. More often than not liberals have worked directly against Palestine by directly supporting Israel, with the inflection point being 9/11. The last person who cared about a two-state solution was Bill Clinton, but even he couldn't get Netanyahu to agree to a permanent deal. Which goes to demonstrate how long this plan has been in place: even back in the late 90s Netanyahu understood that he wouldn't have to compromise because there wasn't enough support for Palestine in the west; either within western governments, universities, or electorates. He could just wait out all the dissenters, gradually taking more and more until Israel would have the ability to control everything in the West Bank and deport Palestinians "back home" to Jordan (which is the end stage of all this). And again, then 9/11 happened creating a situation where defending Muslims became impossible in America. Even Trump's Muslim ban worked itself out because the Patriot Act (a law created directly in response to 9/11) gives him the authority to do so, and nobody wants to repeal it.
This doesn't even touch on much more grounded issues like being able to criticize Israel in the first place. American universities, beset by constant complains about free speech, are rapidly banning pro-Palestinian speech on the basis of antisemitism. This already occurs in Europe where antisemitism is already a crime. The media won't ever talk about Israel either, because they can't without appearing like they have a problem with Jews. It is impossible to seriously discuss the matter so the default condition is an Israeli victory.
All of this occurs because one side chose not to fight for it. Liberals determined long ago that Palestine wasn't important and that a full Israeli purge of the area is reasonable. Which is what is inevitable now that Palestinians no longer have any rights.
