You mean when FDR expanded the Govt exponentially by using the Commerce Clause as an excuse and packing the supreme court with activist judges who acquiesced in FDR's central planning and expansion of the administrative state.

The only time he engaged in anything close to central planning was during the war. Painting murals in post offices and building hiking trails is not central planning. During the second world war, what alternative was there to planning? Hoping that the citizenry, armed with Grandpa's hunting rifle, would be enough to hold off any invasion and giving up on the rest of the world?
