The Left should support people doing what they want with their own bodies. There is no reason morally, and especially practically, that the left should oppose bodily autonomy, even when/if we think it is icky.
Look, transgender issues, like all issues currently, are OBVIOUSLY liberal. Workers strikes are liberal, resistance is liberal, everything is liberal. Anyone with open eyes can see this. Socialism has been maimed and forced out of polite society.
Socialist points have been stolen by Capitalists. That doesnt mean that these cant become Socialist points, and that Socialists shouldnt care about them. They just have to be clearly marked with a Socialist position. Socialist points need to be reclaimed in the public sphere, and that INEVITABLY means engaging with liberal points, as they are the very positions that Socialism requires, but with very different wants and aims. It is absolutely necessary that we engage with liberal ideas, and that Socialist positions on these issues are spread and maintained. The aim of Socialists is to abolish private property, but to do that, Socialists have to be able to answer peoples questions. Liberal talking points can not just be ignored. It is laughable to imagine that a revolution will ever occur solely to destory private property. A revolutiom will occur because people will become convinced that private property needs to be destroyed. This will ONLY come about when the issues people are discussing have been clearly answered from a Socialist position.
In short, we have to care about transgender people and other liberal things because we live in a liberal society, and to transform it we must offer a better worldview for people to abolish private property for.
