Russia Thread

Right, so to put things into some perspective. In short Putin, Medvedev and his United Russia party are raising the pension age, no biggie right? Well no, Putin has fucked up. He tried to use the world cup to hide it but the protests against it keep growing. The reasons why are obvious, right?
Well it's not just that, see they are targeting the Soviet generation, you know what the Soviet Generation did? Every Mayday and Den pobedi and international women's day and all the rest they went to the streets en-masse with their tovarischi.
However the fact that people don't like a pension reform isn't big news, big news it that the protests are happening in ways not seen in Russian in a long time. First is that a great many are taking-place outside of Moscow and Petersburg, the areas where supposedly there is no opposition to Putin. Secondly they are being undertaken not by the liberals, but by the trade unions in conjunction with leftwing groups, which leads to the third point that leftwing groups (including Left Front, CPRF and others) are leading the charge. This builds off Left Front's previous actions like protesting Putin's inauguration as a "tsar" and protesting Den pobedi with a banner saying "This is not your victory".
And you know the result of this? Putin has fucking tanked in personal polling, to his worst position in over a decade. So in short we have leftwing groups build a ground presence, the government losing popularity in a major way and people getting politically active in civil society again. This is going to be interesting.

CPRF and other "LeftWing" groups have been infiltrated by basically NazBols for decades now and are just puppets of UR
They will hold some protests so their voter base does not abandon them then go home

Pretty remarkable, that's a pretty low point in that graph. What kind of strategy or organization is happening?

From what I've seen it is mostly the trade unions and local orgs of elderly people pushing it, with the KPRF either showing up in support or organising a few. Leftfront is organising its own rallies in the name of the cause, mostly in Moscow.

Do you guys think the Americans are involved in this?

RESTORE THE SOVIET UNION

Unless they decided to convince Medvedev to raise the pension age, fucking no you mongoloid.

As far as I can tell the only Russian protesters the US is backing are meme groups and fascists like Pussy Riot and pro-Ukraine groups.

Of course. Western NGOs and the various opposition groups they fund are probably out in protest and using it as a cudgel against the government. But that doesn't mean it's entirely manufactured by the West or delegitimize opposition to the issue.

not really, Putin appointed a fuckload of neolibs and more "pro west" figures after the last election for "economic" reasons and to stop dissent from the elites

Yeah the USA could try to weasel its way into this issue but here, for instance:
bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-07-18/silent-putin-unnerves-russia-after-panic-follows-pensions-ploy
US media seems to basically be in favor of raising the retirement age. I also don't see a big flood of stories here:
twitter.com/search?q=russia pensions&src=typd
And as you pointed out, pussy riot aren't talking about it:
twitter.com/search?f=tweets&q=retirement from:@pussyrrriot&src=typd
But Navalny is it seems:

We should be vigilant against US agents and propaganda, but this doesn't look like some kind of PSYOP.

this person is criticizing the KPRF over some rhetoric:

He is getting triggered the CP is opposing Putin…

The auto-translated captions are readable, the first half of the video is this KPRF deputy refuting US "election hacking" hysteria, importance of supporting Syria, etc. In the second half he gets into the pension issue.

how is that guy a neoliberal shill? this is the website he writes for.

Shall we take bets on how long it will be before BO starts banning people for supporting these protests or criticizing Putin?

THE SECOND OCTOBER REVOLUTION IS AT HAND

He's shilling for austerity reforms on the pension age by equating opposition to it with CIA subversion.

Russian Renaissance when? Please drag us out of the late capitalist dark age. Maybe this new cold war will bring the Soviet Union back out of spite.

Can people ITT take a moment to actually learn shit about Russian politics?
CPRF Are basically right-Wing social democrats who rubber stamp everything putin wants

Too late, h*manity had their chance. Only suffering nao!

No he's not, he's criticizing the KPRF for alluding(?) to killing Russian politicians. Let's have a sober analysis and try to determine what's going on here.

See this:

Somehow KPRF is both threatening a new killing of the Romanovs, and are weak socdems… This kind of meme-oriented discussion doesn't seem useful.

A consequence of current geopolitics is that some things Russia is doing right now deserve support from communists. For example, assisting Syria and the DPR, LPR etc. How could the KPRF not rubber stamp that? This puts communists on trickier ground than they were in 1917 when Russia was imperialist. In either case, KPRF doesn't seem to be "rubber stamping" this retirement age increase.

thank you for giving me nightmares, what the fuck is this?

Armenfilm, an animation studio that produced the most fucked up content in the world

How long will someone say that the protest is a CIA plot and the protesters should be crushed?

Is that true? Shit's fucked up

...

It is true

Yes after 90s almost all Russian parties claiming to be communist (Multiple exist cuz of splits) incorporate some form of Russian Ultra-Nat bullshit into their rhetoric

That's probably their thing. Like how many (but not all) western socialist/communist parties have some idpol.

Nationalism is idpol

Stalin signed a pact of cooperation with the Orthodox Church during the war, it's not crazy that KPRF would strategically cooperate with them on some level. Celebrating Stalin is a given and he's a hero. Israel certainly played a role cooperating with the CIA to destroy the USSR, that wiki article is obviously distorting some statement to such an effect.
