Title is pretty self explanatory, occasionally online I’ll encounter someone who claims that they live, have lived, or know someone who’s lived in a country that is or was deemed socialist, nowadays it’s usually people claiming to be from Venezuela (even though they aren’t socialist), people claiming to know people from Cuba and the USSR, how do I combat these types of anecdotes especially when dealing with people describing things like family members being executed or being sent to labor camps?
How do I combat Anecdotal evidence

Because of things like Operation Earnest voice, you have no reason to trust them.
"I am sorry my dude, but anecdotal evidence is insufficient justification for your claims. Do you have any data to support your position?"
umm sweaty you're not supposed to downplay people's lived experiences okay sweaty
Tell 'em about the Nayirah testimony m.youtube.com
I remember hearing this was bullshit, but could never find the video.
Thanks.
Why the fuck would they use the daughter of the ambassador i will never know.
wiki for the uninitiated:
Tell them you know someone who did, or is, currently living there and their life is awesome
When they try to refute it, invent another person
Keep going until you win, or they agree to stop using anecdotes as arguments
with another anecdote. itll just become a clusterfuck then
Point out that their experience may not represent the majorities. Also demand evidence, there are loads of liars when it comes to former communist countries, and active liars now regarding Venezuela.
If you come across a right-winger who tries to cite other people's "lived experience" then resort to pointing out that its literally woke twitter SJW logic like .
A lot of people who were born after the collapse of the USSR don't know shit. All the breadline pictures you find online are from the 1990s, a lot of people moved out at that time and they hear the horror stories of the 90s from their parents and don't spend some time thinking that wasn't until after the collapse. And if they stayed, they can still uncritically swallow anti-communist propaganda pushed by the new oligarch states to justify their existence.
Compare the anecdotes of anti-communists with something like pic related. Do they ever bring up such minute details as monthly expenditure? They don't because it's inconvenient to do so, and in most cases they simply have no fucking idea. People in eastern Europe are still living in the same appartment blocks, only the rent is four times as high.
Tell them their loved ones will eventually be glorified as martyrs, while your personal struggle struggle in obscurity under capitalist oppression is a tragedy of liberty they just can't understand.
They’re usually fake and you can just point this out - everyone knows you can’t trust anything on the internet. I remember once there was some guy ripping on communism on YouTube and he lived in the USSR etc etc the usual. I click on his profile and one of two videos there is a fucking vlog of him. He had a fucking North American (US or Canada idk) and looked and sounded like a fucking teenager. I called him out and he immediately privated or unlisted the video. Probably stupid of me to do that.
I still downloaded his little vlog and recorded all the details like it’s title and upload date though. Could even post it here if anyone’s curious
Or just make up counter anecdotes that are deliberately ridiculous and overwhelming to show that anyone can be anything on the web and work from that.
do it
This is expected. There are two types of people with anti-communist anecdotes. First are edgy high-school boys which are making stuff up because of overdosing on ideology. No point in arguing there. Second are people which can be either shut up very easily with questions like
Or they are spewing shit like
"Please provide evidence"
This works especially well when people start spouting off with the holodomor narrative.
Post it anom
